Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State said opposition political parties as well as “frustrated politicians” in the state have resorted to verbal attack on him and his office “just to gain cheap political popularity.”
Orji who described such attitude as “a defeatist idea,” warned his political opponents to show respect for his office even if they disagree with his polices as a person.
According to him, “disparaging the person and office of the Governor is never an honourable way of gaining political relevance,” adding that “those who disrespect constituted authorities will never be respected by others when in authority.”
Orji was responding to a recent media remarks credited to the National Publicity Secretary of United Progressive Party, Ogbuehi Dike, where the party accused the Orji-led administration of ineptitude.
In a release by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ajunwa, the Governor described UPP as a “moribund and ghost political party desperately looking for recognition.”
Orji who described his critics as “political chaffs of no conceivable threat” dismissed their renewed media attacks and propaganda against his administration as the “ranting of a drowning political desperadoes .”
The statement reads in part: “The attention of Abia State Governor has been drawn to the renewed media attack on his person and his people-oriented administration by some frustrated and inconsequential political failures whose only known way of gaining relevance is to attack the government in power.
“Government wishes to state that it would not be distracted by the antics of detractors who will never see the wave of transformation pervading the Abia landscape courtesy of Orji’s focused and purposeful leadership.
“Joining issues with incoherent detractors will only amount to dignifying their untenable fallacies, hence, the resolve of His Excellency to ignore them and remain focused on his transformation agenda which has since restored Abia on the path of greatness.”
Orji further said “it is obvious that Abia has no worse enemy than any person or group under any guise which fails to acknowledge the widely applauded strides of my administration which has successfully laid a strong foundation for Abia’s development in all sectors.”
