A group, Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-corruption Crusade (FHRAC) has raised alarm over the 30,000 additional Poling Unit allegedly created by INEC ahead of the 2015 general election.
FHRAC said that it is nothing but a ploy to polarise the Country along North and South dichotomy where the North will be given an edge over the South, adding that Prof. Athairu Jega is desperately pursuing Northern agenda to continue the Northern domination over the South. This, according to the group, cannot be and must not be allowed to stay.
This was contained in a statement made available to Naija Center News (NCN) signed by the group National President, Mr. Alaowei Cleric Esq., and the Secretary, Mr. Jerry Otuaro Esq.
FHRAC accused Jega of nursing plans to rig the 2015 general election in favour of the north, adding that he should resign since he has breached his oath of office.
It said “There is no justification whatsoever for Prof. Jega to give the North additional 21615 PUs while the South is just 8412 PUs. We are convinced without an iota of doubt that the INEC chairman has breached his oath of office and thus he cannot serve in any capacity as an impartial umpire. The circumstances surrounding the creation of the said additional PUs has shown that Jega is nursing an ambition to rig the 2015 elections in favour of some candidates.
”In fact, we are constrained having considered Jega’s flagrant violation of his official oath, to join the call for his resignation from INEC Chairman. We Southerners are undoubtedly disappointed in his ability to serve this country faithfully and diligently. Never again
will we accept this flawed North and South population density which was skewed for over the years to favour the former. Southerners are
not slave to anybody in their fatherland and we no longer accept the Ahmadu Bello agenda that North is pursuing over the years.
The group also called on the army council to reconsider the death sentence passed on the 12 soldiers who was said to have disobeyed order and shot at their boss in the Northern part of Nigeria where the Boko Haram insurgents are currently battling.
It said ”In another vein, we also use this medium to condemn the death sentence passed against the 12 soldiers by the Court Martial. In the first
place the alleged offence for which the soldiers were court martialed is one of attempted murder and thus the punishment ought not to be
death sentence. The incidence that has led to the said mutinous act by the soldiers has been proven in the affirmative. It is our belief therefore that the judgment was given per incuriam. We hereby call on the army council to reconsider the court’s decision. If our plea is not heeded then we may also join other well-meaning Nigerians to file an appeal in the Court of Appeal for their defense.”
