The house, led by the Speaker, Uyi Igbe, explained that the disaster, which occurred last month in Fugar, in Etsako Central Local Government Area of the state, rendered many homeless and destroyed valuable property.

The member representing Etsako Central Constituency in the assembly, Johnson Eghuma, stated that although the state government and the local government council had made available building materials and other relevant items, the intervention of the federal government was necessary to reduce the massive effect of the disaster.

Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party faction of the assembly has decried lack of attention given to residents of a community in Orhionmwon, who were also victims of the rainstorm disaster, by the state government.

A member of the house representing Orhionmwon 11 Constituency, Friday Ogierhiakhi, who raised the issue under urgent matter of public importance, lamented that although the residents had made an official complaint about their plight, “nothing” had been done by the state and local governments to assist the victims.

He, therefore, urged the governments, through the relevant agencies, to provided the needed assistance.

The nine-member house led by its Speaker, Festus Ebea, also summoned the State Director of the Federal Road Management Agency to appear before the house on September 15 to explain the level of progress in the maintenance of federal roads in the state, following an earlier resolution passed by the house.
