Don’t join PDP, Inegbeneki chieftain urges Ikimi

FOLLOWING the resignation of the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi from the All Progressives Congress, APC, a chieftain of the party in Edo Central senatorial district, Chief Francis Inegbeneki, yesterday, urged the former APC leader to quit politics rather than return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Tom Ikimi Tom Ikimi

Inegbeneki gave the advice after a meeting of leaders of the APC at Ebhossa, in Igueben Local Government Area, home town of Chief Ikimi, where the leaders disassociated themselves from the exit of Ikimi from the party and vowed not to follow him to the PDP.

The leaders declared that they are not joining Ikimi to PDP because “he left because he was not made the National Chairman of the APC, and not that the APC led by Governor Adams Oshiomhole has not delivered the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.”

According to Inegbeneki, “if you recall, when Chief Anenih who also is an Esan man was removed as BoT Chairman of the PDP by Obasanjo, Anenih did not leave the party; he remained and today, is he not the chairman of BoT of PDP? So Ikimi should emulate Anenih if he wants to have respect in Esanland. That is why I am advising him that rather than rejoin the PDP as being rumoured, he should quit politics.

“APC members in Igueben have echoed that they are not following him to PDP if he decides to return, and he is alone. He is blaming Bola  Tinubu. If Tinubu had left for PDP, will Nigeria today have a strong opposition like the APC, no. The only way we would have followed him to PDP is if he had told us that Oshiomhole has not performed, but he did not say that.”
