Boko Haram: Two soldiers confirmed dead in Jos explosion

Two soldiers have been confirmed dead in the explosion that occurred mid morning at a military barracks in Plateau state, North Central Nigeria.

A statement from the Army Spokesman, Colonel Sanni Usman said the explosion was a result of an accident which occurred in the process of destroying defective ammunition at the barracks

His statements read: ” This is to inform the public that the explosion heard in Jos, Plateau State this morning was from an accident that occurred while troops authorized to destroy unservicable ammunitions were transporting the bad ammunition. Some of the unserviceable ammunition exploded in the process of moving them to demolition site in the bush. It did not affect the barracks or neighbouring communities. Unfortunately, 2 soldiers lost their lives and one sustained injuries. Normalcy has returned to the area.”

Witnesses said the bomb hit the Nigerian Army’s 3rd Armoured Division barracks at Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, at about 9:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Plateau State has witnessed a series of deadly bomb attacks in recent months. A blast at a bus station in Jos, Plateau, late February killed 13 people and injured 14 others.
