DUTSE—Indications have emerged that Governor Sule Lamido’s 2015 presidential ambition is now tearing the state ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, apart.

The recent face-off between the state Vice Chairman and Secretary of the party, Alhaji Aminu Nuhu Jahun and Alhaji Ali Tukur Gamtsa respectfully, penultimate week was an indication that all is not well with the party in the state.

Several Nigerians and groups had been asking Lamido to throw his hat into the ring and vie for the election because of his alleged impressive performance in Jigawa State as governor in the last seven years.

However, shortly after the state Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Jahun had said that the PDP  members in the state would procure nomination forms for Lamido to contest the election, adding that “they are 100 percent in his support  to vie for the office of the president,’’ the Secretary, Alhaji Gamtsa countered him, asking the general public to ignore such romour.

Vanguard sources said that although the Chairman of the party, Alhaji Salisu Mamuda Kuit reportedly intervened over the issue, which he said was ‘’an internal affair which the party can resolve amicably,’’ the party members had been polarised over the governor’s presumed ambition since the exchange of words by the two political gladiators in the state,

It was gathered that, the secretary Ali Gamtsa was accused of allegedly engaging in a confrontation with a former  state  legislator when PDP governors converged on Jigawa for their meeting as well as a serving federal lawmaker and some politicians over the issue.

A top official of the PDP who commented on the crises said, ‘’The recent open confrontation between the secretary and the vice chairman, at the headquarters of the party did not come as a surprise to those familiar with the situation.

Members of the National Assembly from the state, among other personalities from all walks of life, had asked Lamido to vie for the highest political office in the land, citing his achievements as governor of his rural state as reasons for their campaign for him to heed their advice.

In an interactive session with newsmen in Dutse, the state capital, Lamido said he felt flattered by the call from eminent Nigerians for him to run for the election in 2015, but said that the atmosphere was not conducive for him to contest.

He said: ”I must say that I am impressed with the support these people are giving me. I feel flattered that of the 170 million Nigerian population, I was chosen by some people to occupy the number one seat in the country.

“I still do not see a conducive environment to declare my aspiration, but I thank them sincerely for their care and concern,” he said.

On his performances in office as governor, he said: “Jigawa State deserves the best and I gave the maximum I can in the last seven years because I sustained development and built strong institutions in the state.”

He said the collective efforts of Jigawa indigenes, resource persons and other stakeholders gave him the courage to execute developmental projects in the state.

The governor said his government carried out the projects without borrowing a single kobo as loan from either banks or anybody and commended the people of the state whom he described as good ambassadors and partners in progress for their support and cooperation.

Governor Lamido lashes Jonathan over missing $20b, National Conference

Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido lashed out at the Jonathan administration for what he called its failure to address Nigeria’s ills.

He described the leadership as “totally disconnected with the people”, saying “all its policies are formulated in parallel with the needs, plight and interest of the common man and the country.”

Lamido also condemned the National Conference, the government approach to the Boko Haram killings and abandonment of projects in his state, among others.

He spoke in Dutse, the state capital, at the weekend while receiving a delegation of the Bank of Agriculture. It was led by Managing Director Dr. Falalu Santuraki.

The delegation, which praised Lamido’s support for agriculture, proposed a N1billion minimal interest loan to support irrigation for farmers at the Hadejia Valley, with minimal interest.

Lamido lamented that the Auyo irrigation scheme was abandoned for over 30 years by the Federal Government. He expressed regret that the promises made by President Jonathan to release N10 billion for the project and the reassurance by Vice President Namadi Sambo when he visited three years ago had not been fulfilled.

He also said the dualisation of Kano-Maiduguri federal road, which was started more than eight years ago, remained uncompleted. He described this as a manifestation of lack of seriousness from the leaders.

Lamido accused the President of gathering elders and respectable nationals to be embarrassing themselves in the name of national conference.

He said: “Some comments and statements from some delegates to the conference is disappointing and a threat to the unity of the nation.”

“It is unfortunate that our last line of hope, which comprises the emirs, clerics and elder statesmen, has been assembled somewhere and are busy insulting one another in the name of national conference. Believe me, if the situation continues, our nation’s unity is in danger,” he said.

The governor added: “If the PDP or APC members of the House of Assembly abuse one another, it is understandable because it is democracy for one party to challenge another.”

Lamido noted also that the administration is full of deceit and lackadaisical attitude to people’s needs and interests. “It is quite unfortunate that today in Nigeria, hundreds of innocent people are killed, like chicken on a daily basis for no just reason and nobody cared to talk about it.”

His words: “It is only in Nigeria that $20billion would be declared missing from the public treasury, but no one cared to talk about it because leaders can dare any huge consequences in bargaining and securing their political interests.

“The leadership in this country is totally disconnected from the people. All its policies are formulated in parallel with the needs, plight and interest of the common man and the country”.

“The masses are today living in agony due to high level of injustice, denial, imposition, abuse of office ensured by the tyranny of bad leadership.”
