APC and the Suspension of Gentleman Amegor - APC United Front

The APC United Front, Edo State Chapter has expressed displeasure over the current crisis in the All Progressives Congress in Edo State.

The group explained their disappointment in the suddenly anointing of one of the party aspirants, Godwin Obaseki by who they described as the new godfather, the governor of the State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

In a statement made available to NAIJA CENTER NEWS and signed by the state President and Conveener, David Osa Ogbeide, the group wondered what necessitated Obaseki as the choice of the governor?

Edo State people are watching with chagrin the ugly developments playing itself out in the All Progressive Congress (APC), Edo State as the campaign for the 2016 Governorship Seat gathers momentum. This is due to the bad blood resulting from the purported plans by the Governor to foist an Aspirant, Dr. Godwin Obaseki on the APC for the Governorship election coming up later in the year 2016, and an action many condemn out rightly. This no doubt has made the political atmosphere in Edo State fully charged.

It is easy to see the desperation in the camp of the supposedly anointed or the preferred candidate of the new godfather as they have resulted to using all means available to cow every leader and delegates who does not support their candidate. Therefore, one is tempted to ask this pertinent question; why this desperation?

Another question one is wont to ask is; what necessitated the choice of the man Obaseki by the godfather himself? That his army has gone to town intimidating leaders and members of the Party who dare to refuse to offer his/her support for their preferred aspirant, or have a contrary view on the method to choose the successor to replace the dynamic and performing Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The desperation of the Obaseki Camp has been with its antecedent dramas. The operators and proponents of the Obaseki’s campaign group and their godfather are not sparing anyone as if their choice of or their imposition of Godwin Obaseki by whatever means will automatically make him the Governor of Edo State, without going through the general election.

Recently, we watched the battle for the Governorship Ticket take a new dimension when on the 11th of January, 2016, some group of persons, purportedly sponsored by the godfather himself placed a suspension on the Senatorial Leader and Vice Chairman, Edo South, Barr. Gentleman Amegor, an action they have no power by what so ever authority, and without proof of wrong doing, to effect.

Why the godfather is moving from one leader to the other, lobbying and soliciting support and sometime coercing them to support his stooge, with heavy financial inducement, the other members of the group like the Attorney General, Barr. Henry Idahagbon is on TVs and News Papers intimidating and insulting the Leaders who refused to endorse Godwin Obaseki, and threatening them with expulsion.

We view this action as an affront and tantamount to destroy the unity and gains of APC in Edo State, and wish to warn these desperados whose main interest is first their belly to STOP this action NOW!

We have it on good record that Barr. Gentleman Amegor is a victim of the struggle to foist Dr. Godwin Obaseki on the collective will of the Party. This was as result of his refusal to collect the whooping sum of Fifty Million Naira (N50m) cash offered him and another promise of Two Hundred Million Naira (N200m) to buy all Edo South leaders for Obaseki. But as his name depicts, the gentleman casually refused to be dragged into their scheme, but advocated for a free and fair Primaries for all the aspirants. We gathered that this his (Amegor) position was very ill received by the godfather as he hurriedly put a rag tag team together acting as Executive Committee, suspended Barr. Amegor, with spurious accusation of not having call meetings since his assumption as Senatorial Leader, and that he(Amegor) collected money from PDP during the last general election which is almost a year ago, to compromise the result, an action they have no any constitutional powers to carry out, and or follow the due process.

This path of self destruct being perpetrated by some of these so called leaders has been responsible for the tension and crisis within the party that is threatening to tear the Party apart, and further reduce the already dwindling fortunes of APC in the state as recorded in the last election of March 2015. APC cannot afford the same crisis that rocked the Party prelude to the general election which was also the result of imposition of unpopular candidates in many constituencies in Edo South, including forcing some Aspirants to step down for the godfather’s anointed persons. This resulted in the woes recorded in the election in some of the constituencies, and some litigation and myriad of cases still in the Courts.

It is evident that the desperation has assumed a new dimension, as the godfather and his godsons are employing every means available to sell their lies and mischief to justify their actions and achieve their objectives against the collective will of the members of the Party, who have maintained that anything short of free, fair and credible primary election is unacceptable.

It is rather pathetic to see the Honourable Attorney General (AG) of Edo State, Barr Henry Idahagbon speaking on TV in defense of their action and casting aspersions on other aspirants, especially the Deputy Governor.

We the members of APC United Front want to use this medium to call this man to order before he destroys our Party by his actions. Following his antecedents and behavior so far, it is Clear Barr. Idahagbon is acting an orchestrated script which will fail. This calls to question once again:
