Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has nominated Mrs Olasinmi Akindele-Odunmbaku, a wife to a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to be a commissioner in his cabinet.
Akindele-Odunmbaku is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akoko North East Local Government .
She is said to be a wife of a Lagos-based chieftain of the APC, Mr James Odunmbaku.
Mimiko had forwarded the woman’s name to the State House of Assembly for screening, which comes up today (Tuesday ).
Confirming the development, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade described Mrs Akindele-Odunmbaku as a strong member of the PDP in Akoko Northeast local government area of the state and who has contributed to the development of the area .
He said, “ she is an active member of the PDP in her local government and she was formerly of the Labour Party (LP). We came together to the PDP . She is a very rugged politician and well loved by her people in the area and she is also a philanthropy, she deserved to be a commissioner”
The commissioner-nominee’s husband is said to be a close associate of the national leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu and a strong member of the APC in Lagos State.
She was also said to have aspired to become the candidate of the PDP in the last House of Representatives election in Akoko Northeast/Northwest Federal Constituency of the state but the party ticket was eventually given to Mr Deni Akerele.
A source in the PDP said that the governor appointed Akindele-Odunmbaku as a commissioner as a way to compensate her, having been denied of the party’s ticket in the general election and also to enable her work vigorously for the party in her local government ahead the next year gubernatorial election.
