Members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State, made good their vow to stage more protests in Benin City and other major towns in the state until their members, who are being owed salaries are paid by their local government authorities.
The protesters on Tuesday resumed their occupation of the ever busy Kings Square in Benin City, the Edo State capital bringing traffic to a halt for several hours.
The workers are also allegedly kicking against the situation whereby the local government councils pay the salaries of state government staff such as the state universal basic education board and the local government education authority.
The workers had last week staged a protest over the alleged non-payment of their salaries by some local government councils.
The alleged defaulting LG councils include Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, Egor, Igbogbazuwa, Okada, Orhionmwon, Uhunmwode.
Others are Igueben, Esan West, Auchi, Fugar, Igarra, Sabongida Ora and Esan Central.
