The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says the conflicting statements by Governor Amaechi’s aides, Mrs. Aleruchi Cookey-Gam and Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi about the application for Building Permit by the Omega Power Ministries (OPM) have exposed the governor’s penchant for lying and politicising official matters.
Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi, the State Commissioner for Lands and Survey had earlier denied ever receiving any application for Building Permit from the General Overseer of OPM, Apostle Chinyere Chibuzor.
Contrasting the Commissioner’s lies, Mrs. Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, the Sole Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority in a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, confirmed that the OPM General Overseer actually applied for Building Permit for the church in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State.
Faulting the double speak by Governor Amaechi’s Senior Political aides, the State Chairman of the PDP, Bro Felix Obuah in a statement signed by his Special Adviser On Media, Jerry Needam said this is one of Amaechi’s many lies which smacks of irresponsibility by those overseeing the affairs of government under the Governor’s watch.
This state of affairs is not only embarrassing but portrays a government that lacks credibility and cannot be trusted, the PDP remarks.
On one breadth, the Governor accused the Man of God of lying by denying that he (Apostle Chibuzor) applied for Building Permit while on the other breadth, Amaechi said the OPM G.O. actually applied.
It would be recalled that while addressing over 5,000 worshipers at the OPM Headquarters along Airport Road in Port Harcourt recently, Apostle Chibuzor disclosed that the church had made series of applications for Building Permit from the Rivers State Government, the first being in January, 2010 (5yrs ago) but to no avail.
But in a swift reaction to OPM’S outburst, Governor Amaechi through his Lands and Survey Commissioner denied the charge, calling the Man Of God names.
Shortly after, same Amaechi through his New Port Harcourt City Development Authority’s Sole Administrator admitted receiving application for Building Permit from the OPM but that it was undergoing processing, perhaps, due to public outcry.
