By Gbenga Ariyibi, with agency reports

Ado-Ekiti—Mr. Akinfolarin Feyisola, Director, Code of Conduct Bureau, Ekiti State, has directed Governor Kayode Fayemi to declare his “end of tenure assets” unfailingly before the expiration of his tenure.

Feyisola said in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, that the directive also affected the outgoing deputy governor and other political office holders.

He said that all the affected public officers had been duly informed.

Feyisola said that it was mandatory for every political office holder in all parts of the country to declare their assets when coming and leaving office.

He said that defaulters would be dragged before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for going against the law.

He said that some of the officers had started collecting the assets declaration forms after receiving the reminder of the constitutional provision.

The director, however, said the current closure of all courts in the state was a challenge for those who had filled their forms but have nowhere to swear affidavit or do other court processes.

Feyisola advised those who are yet to collect or complete their assets forms to do so immediately, while awaiting the re-opening of the courts.

Meantime, the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that the outgoing key members of the executive and judiciary have connived to abort the inauguration of the governor-elect, Mr Ayo Fayose, on October 16.

The party has therefore petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alooma Mukthar, urging her to look into the matter to avoid constitutional chaos in the state.

In the letter entitled ‘Another judicial coup plotted to avert the swearing in of the governor-elect of Ekiti State’ signed by the State Secretary, Dr Tope Aluko and the State Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, yesterday, the party said it had it on good authority that plans were on to give accelerated hearing to some suits challenging the eligibility of Fayose for the June 21 governorship election despite the Notice of Appeal and the Stay of Proceedings filed in respect of the said suits not withstanding.

Fayose had challenged the assumption of jurisdiction by Justice Olusegun Ogunremi of an Ado-Ekiti High Court on the matter and also filed a Stay of Proceedings on the

hearing of the substantive suit.

“My Lord, on the 28th September, 2014, the Governor-Elect of Ekiti State personally wrote a letter to you, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, raising fears about the attempts to frustrate his swearing-in.

“We are authoritatively informed of another desperate move to obtain a “black market injunction” from an Ekiti State High Court restraining the Chief Judge from swearing-in the Governor-Elect on the 16th,’’ the letter read in part.

The NJC is currently probing the petitions filed by Fayose and Justice Daramola on recent happenings in the state, especially the invasion of the high court complex by some people penultimate Monday and alleged attack on Justice John Adeyeye.
