Buhari, APC govs shun Council of State meeting

A National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and most state governors on the platform of the party were absent at the Tuesday Council of State meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan summoned the meeting to review the security challenges in parts of the country.


Buhari was the only living former leader, who did not attend the meeting which had former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former President Shehu Shagari; former Head of the Interim National Government, Ernest Shonekan; and former military Heads of State, Yakubu Gowon; Abdusalam Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida in attendance.


Governor Adams Oshiomohole of Edo State and embattled Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State were the only APC governors that attended the meeting.


Only two of the APC governors who were absent sent representatives.


None of the APC governors in the South-West attended the meeting while only one was represented.


Only Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State was represented by his deputy, Segun Adesegun.


Governors from Peoples Democratic Party’s states such as Kaduna, Delta, Niger, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Kebbi, Gombe, Enugu and Taraba however attended the meeting.


The governors of Benue, Jigawa, Ondo and Yobe states were also represented by their deputies.
