UMUAHIA — Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has again dismissed insinuations that he had endorsed a candidate for 2015 governorship election in the state.
His declaration came against the backdrop of speculations that he had endorsed deputy general manager of Abia State Environ mental Protection Agency, ASEPA, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, for the slot.
Since the governor started the campaign of ceding power to Ukwa/Ngwa people in 2015, there had been speculations of his endorsing or supporting one aspirant or the other.
But recently, the issue of the governor’s endorsement of Ikpeazu spread like wild fire, raising agitations from other interested aspirants and stakeholders.
Not happy with the rumour which could have filtered into his ears, Governor Orji, Wednesday, made it clear that he had not endorsed any aspirant to succeed him, saying the issue of who would succeed him would be determine by his party, the PDP, and Abia stakeholders.
Orji, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ajunwa, said such rumour was “a figment of the imagination of the peddlers.
”It has come to the notice of Abia State government about the rumour within and outside the state that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Chief T. A. Orji, has endorsed a governorship candidate for 2015 election.
”Government wishes to state that the said rumour is a figment of the imagination the peddlers,” the statement said, and described the governor as a democrat who believes in “justice and equity,” he said.
