Police uncover human parts ‘depot’ in Ilorin

ILORIN— Men of Kwara State Police Command have discovered abandoned buildings along Lagos‑Ilorin expressway, in the Ilorin International Airport area, suspected to be hideout for criminals dealing in human parts and other nefarious criminal activities.

Some of the items discovered in the six buildings of about 18 flats, said to be owned by an 85-year‑old socialite, include decomposed human parts, a decomposing headless body, decomposed human feet, snail shells, piece of cloth suspected to be used in strangulating victims, under-wears, NYSC caps, shoes, eye glasses, hand set cover, sandals, among other personal belongings, were found in the abandoned buildings.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ambrose Aisabor, said this during a press conference yesterday at the Police Headquarters, Ilorin.

Aisabor said the command’s special undercover agents, with information from members of the public, discovered the criminal hideout on Saturday.

According to the state Police Commissioner; “we have made another breakthrough in our efforts to ensure that we chase out criminals from this state and ensure that residents live in peace.”

He added that the identified buildings have inscription of “For Sale” written all over them. They are located near NASFAT praying ground, with a road separating the fenced buildings and the praying ground.”

The police boss, who said no arrest has been made so far, added that the aged socialite, who allegedly owns the place and suspected to be a native of Oro town in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, was being interrogated.

The Kwara State Police Commissioner, who also paraded one Ganiyu Lawal, suspected to be a robber, said the suspect removed a Toyota Camry, with number plate Lagos APP 645 AN, from where it was parked in Ikorodu, Lagos.

A 54-year-old grandmother, Sukuratu Salami has confessed to Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos that she sold human skull for N20,000

The suspect was paraded along side with two others who work as a cemetery guard, and were arrested with human head, bones, intestines, kidney and other parts.

Salami confessed that she started her business as a herb dealer and later graduated to selling human parts for over a year.

While explaining how she started the business, she said “A herbalist approached me last year and demanded for human parts. When he told me how much they buy the parts, I was tempted.

“I approached one Tantoloun, who works in a grave yard. He sold a skull for N10,000 and I sold it in return for N20,000. Greed made me to continue until I was arrested.

“I buy pieces of bones for N2,000, liver and intestines for N1,000 each and resell for N5,000 or more depending on the buyer’s bargaining power.

“I am not a killer. I have never killed anyone. I only request for decomposed human parts. I needed the money to feed my three children of ages 30, 27 and 23 respectively.

“Those who patronize me are herbalists and trado-medical practitioners. The parts are used to prepare concoction for sick children. So far, I have only sold 10 human skulls.”

The cemetery guard, Rasheed Tantoloun, who hail from Oyo State said he usually exhume dead bodies at the cemetery with the help of a man who he identified as Ibrahim

He alleged that he was instructed by his employer to exhume dead bodies that have stayed too long in their graves in order to create space for more fresh ones.

He said: “Anytime old corpses are exhumed, we usually collect the parts and sell to ready buyers who are usually agbo sellers (herbs dealers).

“My salary is N5,000 a month but since I started doing the business, I made three times more than the amount. We also dug corpses buried without caskets.”

Another suspected, an Arabic teacher, Waheed Ibrahim confessed that he received N3,000 to exhume dead bodies.

He said “we usually tamper with dead bodies buried without caskets and those whose relatives never showed up after burial. My job is to exhume and dismember the bodies and at the end of which I would be paid N3,000.”

The human sellers ran out of luck when operatives of SARS, after getting  information about their kind of business, posed as a buyer.

The Police Commissioner of the state, Umar Manko said the command took interest in the case due to the way people are missing.

He said  “detectives led by the SARS commander, Abba Kyari, posed as buyers and bought a human head from Salami at N120,000.

“After arresting the suspects, Salami’s house was searched during which a human head, liver, intestines and other parts were found. We picked interest in this case because of the disappearances of people. With their arrest, we hope that we’ll get to the root of these disappearances.

“We discovered that most of these bodies are fresh. It is criminal to deal in human parts. A few weeks back, Soka Forest was discovered in Ibadan. As you can see, this crime happens all over.

THE Oyo State Police Command said, yesterday, that two of the arrested suspects, who disguised as lunatics, have confessed to be human body parts dealers.


This confirmation was made by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa, at the end of a security meeting with Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

About three “lunatics” on whom human parts were found were killed by angry youths.

Vanguard learnt that a woman who reportedly had 42 SIM cards on her and another man with a price list of human parts died in the hospital.

After the meeting, the CP also said that 42 lunatics had been withdrawn from major streets by the government. He said the move was to prevent them from further attacks.

This came as the police hinted that the forensic pathologists had started work on the den.

While confirming that the den had been in existence for the past 10 years, Ndabawa said the forensic experts were sent from Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja.

He said: “Police have rescued 42 lunatics or presumed lunatics from the streets so far. Two people have been killed. Investigation, like I said, is ongoing and out of the so called lunatics, two of them have confessed to be looking for human body parts, but they are not yet related to the Soka incident.

“That place has been there for a very long time, perhaps about 10 years. It was initially used by a construction company during the channelisation of Ogunpa River and after then the site was abandoned.”

On when the demolition and clearing of Soka would re commence, Ndabawa said: “The demolition of that place will continue and be completed so that other miscreants will not use that place for another purpose.”

The Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Mr. Toye Arulogun, said that the state government had also decided to create a temporary shelter with medical personnel and other facilities to take care of the lunatics before they are re united with their families

Ibadan Forest of Horror: Ibadan hoodlums fight for human parts

Despite the fear and horror the forest in Ibadan has created, some hoodlums were seen scrambling for human parts yesterday. What they planned to use the human parts for was not cleared.

Curious crowds have continued to throng the Ibadan “forest of horror” where the dying people and human parts were discovered.

It was gathered that Hoodlums who have taken over the site are molesting people who came to the forest out of curiosity and seem to have taken control over the forest.

It was gathered that some hoodlums attempted to attack policemen who tried to stop them from the site.

The Ministry of Environment has fixed today for the demolition of all the structures especially abandoned factories, in the forest, which is believed to have served as hideout for criminals for over 15 years.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adebayo, confirmed that the demolition is slated for 11am today. (0)
