I have evidence to prosecute Shema for fraud – Governor Masari

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Sunday said he has “concrete evidence” to drag his predecessor, Ibrahim Shema, before anti-graft agency, EFCC, to recover stolen funds.

Mr. Masari stated this while receiving the Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk, who paid him Sallah homage in Katsina. He said Mr. Shema would only escape from the hammer of the EFCC if he agrees to return the looted funds.

The governor promised that all stolen public money would be retrieved to correct past mistakes and bring sanity into the public service.

He alleged that the former governor misappropriated over N76.6 billion collected as excess crude oil allocation and diverted over N7.5 billion into his private pocket.

He also said Mr. Shema and other top government officials of the Ministry of Local Government Affairs connived and faked used receipts to divert over N750 million earmarked to purchase drugs for local government councils.

Mr. Masari said his administration was aware of media campaign of calumny sponsored by his predecessor to frustrate him from the ongoing probe and retrieving of stolen funds.

He alleged that more than N1.8 billion was paid by the former governor to proprietors of some newspapers for the job.

“No amount of intimidation will stop us from probing Shema’s administration. It is better for them to return all the looted money or face the wrath of the EFCC.

“We will run an open door policy,’’ he said, and solicited for constructive advice to move the state forward.

Speaking earlier, the traditional ruler advised the state government to give top priority to agriculture to generate employment and boost food production.

Mr. Faruk also called o the government to commence exploration of mineral deposits that were abundant in the 34 local government areas of the state.

He assured the governor that the people of Daura would support and cooperate with his administration to achieve its desired goal.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State has warned candidates of other political parties’ to desist from merging the poster of its Presidential Candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Bahari with their campaign posters.

The Chairman of the party, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, gave the warning on Monday in Katsina during a meeting with APC candidates for the February general elections.

Inuwa said the party had observed that some candidates of other political parties were printing their posters with that of Gen. Buhari to gain peoples’ support.

“Some opposition parties candidates have been mischievously printing their posters jointly with that of our presidential candidate.

“The party has informed the security agents on the issue and called on such candidates to desist from that illegal act or face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Inuwa also called on the APC aspirants that lost out in the party’s governorship primaries to close rank and work for the success of the party in the general elections.

In his remarks, the APC Governorship Candidate in the state, Alhaji Aminu Masari, appealed to the aspirants whom he defeated in the primaries to join hands with him for the success of the party.

He described them as important pillars that would guarantee the success of APC in the state.

“It is our responsibility to follow them to their houses and convince them to join hands with us so that the party will clinch the governorship seat in the state,” he said.

Masari presented Alhaji Mannir Yakubu as his running mate at the meeting.

In his acceptance speech, Yakubu pledged his loyalty to Masari and the party, saying that he would do everything possible to ensure the party’s victory in the elections.

President Jonathan got it right this time

It was laughable when I checked site of www.richestlifestyle.com come yesterday to see his name was removed from the list of 9th richest African President after initially placing him as the 6th on the list. They claimed that President Jonathan have the total of over 100 million dollars in known accounts. The first publication first appeared on 7th of October this month. Even though the special adviser to the President on media and publicity has condemned the report and threaten legal action the site here in Nigeria or in their country (USA).

After going through the site of the publication, I witnessed some error about their publication. Some Presidents years in office were decreased, that was what first suspicion that came into my mind, is this site really credible? It was i and my father that were checking the site together. After seeing the report, we then started discussing about the level of corruption in the country. The missing 20 billion dollars and so on. I was amazed about how Dos Santos of Angola made it to first position with net amount of over 20 billion dollars. Also about how the king of Morocco have the total of 2.5 billion dollars in just about 6 years since his ascending to the throne, compared to Mugabe with just 10 million dollars in a span of 26 years.

After checking the list, we went to check the list of richest pastors in the world. Among the pictures I first recognized was pastor T B Joshua. He is among them, having about 15 million dollars. Okotie of Nigeria is also among the list. Infact, even the first is Nigerian with total of over 150 million dollars. In Nigeria, religious places like Churches are not taxed. But how come will a religious leader gather over 150 million dollars?. I quickly remember that many of them have private air craft. How they have all that.

On the same website also, there was the list of world 10 tallest Presidents. Paul Kagame was there. Barack Obama, Assaf of Syria were all among the list. We didn’t check that thoroughly, because it was a mere reflection. Is just like you telling me I am a man.

One list that I checked and read all was the list of world first 10 prettiest first ladies. I checked and read all over without seeing my first lady. They must have lied I said to myself as our first lady should be the number on the list.

The removal of President Jonathan name on the list without themselves stating any reason should be a challenge to journalist. Leaders deserve to be treated with respect and honor. Genuine information should be the only informations to be posted and printed by media companies. They must checked the veracity of every story and information they receive from the public. If they publish anything that is controversial or malicious, they should retract their statement and tender an un reserve apology to the persona and the public for that mis information. Am very much sure the President I going to brag about it next time he holds his media chat. When there was the issue of missing 20 billion dollars, the government had to take time before it responded. Seeing the way they reacted yesterday and the way the they quickly remove the information , I was surprised and had a feeling that this time” Jonathan got it right”

FG to flush out suspected cattle rustlers in Rugu Forest

Faskari (Katsina State) – The Federal Government on Wednesday restated its determination to deploy military forces to flush out suspected cattle rustlers in Rugu Forest in Katsina State.

Sen. Muhammadu Magoro, Chairman, Senate Joint Ad hoc Committee on Security, stated this in Faskari, Katsina State.

Magoro assured continued presence of military personnel and surveillance helicopters across the forest.

He urged residents to accord the government proper cooperation to rid the place of hoodlums.

The senator also held interactive session with victims of multiple armed men attacks in Faskari and Sabuwa local government areas at Maigora village.

Magoro said the committee was constituted by the upper chamber to obtain direct information from the victims at their respective areas.

He appealed to residents to collaborate with their community leaders and provide useful information on all suspicious movements in their communities.

The senator said that hoodlums had agents and those that harbour them within the settlements and must be exposed and brought to book.

In their separate remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman of Faskari Local Government, Alhaji Isiyaku Ahmad and Vice Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government, Alhaji Kabir Dahiru, expressed appreciation over the visit.

They said that the incessant attacks had hindered farming activities in the affected areas.

Also, the Ward Head of Faskari, Alhaji Lawal Garba, urged other community leaders to provide names of suspected hoodlums perpetrating the bad acts within the communities.

Garba explained that the attackers had subjected people to hardships, saying that the only option was to come out with truths and assist government to face the hoodlums.

However, Malam Sani Wakili and Alhaji Alhassan Woti, respectively appealed to government to establish military barracks in the forest as well as clear some portions up to at least 30 kilometres from the settlements.

Many other victims’ families have testified and Magoro assured to forward their complaints  and suggestions to the relevant authorities.

Other members of the committee on the visit were Senators Barnabas Gemade, Atiku Bagudu, Joshua Lidani and Sani Sale.

The committee, which now headed for Zamfara and Kaduna states, had earlier visited Nassarawa, Plateau and Benue states on similar mission.

It will be recalled that gunmen had killed more than 117 persons in an attack on some communities in the two local governments on March 11 with 1, 915 persons displaced as a result of the attack. (NAN)

Boko Haram kill 100 in different villages in Katsina State

The orgy of bloodletting in some parts of the country has continued, with no fewer than 100 killed in four Katsina State villages.

Officials and witnesses said yesterday that the attackers on Wednesday rode motorcycles into villages in broad daylight and killed residents.

President Goodluck Jonathan last night ordered the military to dislodge the terrorists whose identities remained unclear.

Witnesses said some of the assailants were ethnic Fulani. It was unclear whether they were Boko Harm insurgents.

Some people described the assailants as cattle rustlers.

House of Representatives member Abdullahi Abbas Machika said 47 people were buried in one village alone, following the attack. “So far, 69 bodies have been recovered from the attacks carried out by a large group of gunmen riding on motorcycles,” he added.

A witness who narrowly escaped and later returned to his village told Premium Times yesterday that he attended the burial of 27 people in his hometown, Maigora. He said he later attended the burial of another 21 people at Sabon Layin Galadima; 40 people were killed at Marabar Maigora; seven in Kurar Mota and eight in Unguwar Doka.

Local residents told the BBC Hausa Service that security personnel had not been deployed in the area as at yesterday.

The villages attacked are Mararabar Gora, Maigora town, Sabo Layin Galadima and Unguwan Doka in Faskari local government area.

The gunmen moved from house-to-house, killing and maiming people, including children and women. They set houses on fire.

It was learnt that the attack, which was started on Tuesday night, was extended till Thursday.

“We are just coming from the funeral of innocent victims at Maiangua town; we attended similar funerals at Unguwar Doka some hours ago,”an eyewitness said.

Police spokesman Aminu Abubakar declined to speak on the attack yesterday.

Machika told the BBC that security personnel were busy protecting President Jonathan, who was on a two-day visit to the state while people were being killed in his constituency.

President Jonathan last night ordered the military to comb the Rugu Forest and dislodge the terrorists.

Speaking at a dinner organised in his honour by the Katsina State government at the Government House Banquet Hall, Jonathan said the Rugu forest is a border area linking four states of Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kaduna and the neighbouring Niger Republic.

He regretted that the forest meant for economic purposes had turned to hideout for insurgents from where they launch attacks on the states.

The President also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to deliver relief materials to the affected communities. (0)
