Recognise me as Chairman of NGF if you want reconciliation - Jang tells Amaechi

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) under the leadership of Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has told Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State that the reconciliation of the governors under one umbrella can only start with the recognition of Governor Jang as Chairman of the NGF.

Amaechi had on Friday in Port Harcourt called for the reconciliation of the feud among the governors as the face off was affecting the once united forum.

But reacting through a statement released in Abuja and signed by the Sole Administrator of the Jang-led forum, Osaro Onaiwu, the governors stated that while they understand the “lamentation of Amaechi on the crack among the governors, they however reminded him that there would be no such fracture if Amaechi and his factional colleagues had adhered to the nomination of Governor Jang at the NGF which was duly accepted by the PDP Forum before the ill fated election.”

The statement further advised Amaechi to seek the truth of how Jang emerged as the consensus choice of the northern governors and he would find out that the deceit and the betrayal of trust among the governors were at the bottom of the fracture and that only a return to the original agreement can heal the fracture.

The governors under the leadership of Jang added that they were not surprised at Amaechi’s disappointment as he presently presides over an opposition governors’ forum, a leadership they said he inadvertently shares with Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State who is the Chairman of the All Progressives Governors’ Forum by virtue of the fact that all the governors under Amaechi’s leadership all belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC)

The executive governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang has appealed to the people of the state not to be scared over the rating of bombing in the state by the dreaded Boko Haram, but to have courage and hope for an end to the insurgents.

Jang disclosed this during a special interdenominational service at the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, in Jos. He assured that the state will triumph over Boko Haram if the people put their hope in God.

The governor was speaking due to the last Saturday night’s bombing in which the suicide bomber blew up himself and two others while trying to kill a group of football fans watching UEFA finals.

The governor announced the immediate take-off of a local security outfit to be known as Neighbourhood watch in the state, a plan he said was to provide additional support to other security agencies in the state over terrorism.

Although details of the new outfit were not given, it is expected to work closely with the Joint Task Force, JTF, to enhance information gathering and sharing among the agencies and the locals in fighting terrorism.

The governor, however, renewed his call on the natives to be more vigilant and to promptly report suspicious movements and elements to law enforcement agonies for appropriate actions.

On Saturday night, a suicide bomber blew himself and two others up in a failed attempt to kill football enthusiasts, who had converged on the state capital to watch the finals of the European Football League, UEFA.

The bomber, it was learnt, was killed when the bomb he had primed went off before he could reach its target.

Special Adviser to Governor Jonah Jang on Media, Pam Ayuba, told Vanguard that the church service was the only event organised by the governor to mark this year’s Democracy Day in keeping with the mood in the nation.
