Don’t threaten Danjuma, ACF warns Tompolo, Dokubo

1

The northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, has warned Niger Delta ex-militants not to threaten a former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.).

Tompolo Tompolo

The northern group said neither Danjuma nor any citizen of the country for that matter should be threatened with attacks by the ex-militants, who have been threatening fire and brimstone should President Goodluck Jonathan loses the February 14 presidential poll.

The ex-militants had threatened to attack Danjuma’s business interest in the Niger Delta for daring to ask that security agencies should arrest leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari;and other ex-militants.

Dokubo-Asari, Victor Ben Ebikabowei a.k.a Boy Loaf;   Government Ekpudomenowei, a.k.a Tompolo and other militants had, during a meeting at the Bayelse State Government House, vowed to unleash violence on Nigerians if Jonathan failed in his re-election bid.

They said any attempt to unseat the President would be seen as a direct affront to the Ijaw nation.

The ACF said it viewed the threat by the ex-militants as not only a direct affront on Danjuma but on the President Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government.

National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Muhammadu Ibrahim, in a statement in Kaduna on Monday, said, “ACF and indeed all Nigerians hold Gen T.Y. Danjuma, former Chief of Army Staff and Defence Minister in high esteem, as a revered patriot, elder statesman and a philanthropist of repute who fought for the unity of Nigeria and has continued to play this fatherly role even in his old age.

“ACF will therefore not accept any threat to his person or business assets or to any law-abiding citizen by any group or individuals in the name of militancy.”

The northern body therefore asked security operatives to take urgent steps to avert what it described as “ugly consequences” of war threats by the ex-militants.

Danjuma had penultimate Wednesday asked the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency arrest the Niger Delta ex-militants who threatened war in the country if Nigerians failed to re-elect Jonathan.

Danjuma spoke at the inauguration of Kwakwasiya City in Kano.

Danjuma Danjuma

He had said, “You should arrest Dokubo-Asari, Tompolo, Boyloaf and other Niger Delta militants for making reckless statements, which in any way does not mean keeping Nigeria as one entity and creating war situation.

“Those were reckless statements coming from irresponsible individuals; they should be condemned and be arrested immediately.”

Neither President Jonathan nor the Federal Government has reacted to the threat by the former militants.

The ACF warned that nothing must tamper with the business empire of Danjuma because there was nothing wrong with his call for the arrest of ex-militants that had been threatening the peace of the entire country.

The ACF reminded the ex-militants that the President was not elected by Nigerians in 2011 based on threat or intimidation from any section of the country.

It stressed, “ACF wishes to remind the Niger Delta militants that President Jonathan did not ascend to his present position through threats and intimidation, but rather through democratic means of canvassing for votes without any form of molestation throughout the length and breadth of Nigeria in 2011.

“The same process the President and other candidates vying for the office shall go through to emerge as Nigeria’s President in 2015 and not through intimidation, threats and ultimatum.

“ACF therefore views such threats and intimidation by the ex-militants as an affront not only to Gen. Danjuma but an attack on a democratically elected Federal Government of Nigeria, over which President Jonathan presides.

“It is also an open challenge to the nation’s security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Security and even the Nigerian military that are responsible for maintaining law and order and any form of internal and external aggression against Nigeria.

“ACF hereby calls upon the Federal Government to urgently take necessary steps and contain this emerging threat to national security by Niger Delta ex- militants to avert any ugly consequences.”

Arrest Danjuma for sponsoring Boko Haram - Tompolo

A former militant leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has accused former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd.) of sponsoring terrorism in the Northern part of the country, and therefore called for his arrest and prosecution.

Danjuma had in Kano State, Wednesday, called for the immediate arrest of ex-militant leaders Asari-Dokubo, Tompolo and Boyloaf over alleged comments that there would be war should President Goodluck Jonathan fail to win the February 14 presidential election.

Tompolo, who called for Danjuma’s arrest for allegedly sponsoring terrorism in the Northern part of the country in a statement by his media aide, Paul Bebenimibo, said: “The call by Danjuma for my arrest and other agitators for a better living condition for the people of the Niger Delta region is an indication that he is behind terrorism in the North Eastern part of the country. He also did not condemn the attacks on the president in Bauchi.

“Is Gen. Danjuma not aware of the peaceful atmosphere when Gen Muhammadu Buhari visited Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states (home base of the President) for campaigns? Why was it that President Jonathan’s convoy was attacked in Kastina and Bauchi states without any provocation?

“Who is Gen. Danjuma if not for the oil wealth he is enjoying from the Niger Delta? He should rather be arrested for being behind terrorism in the North.

“Where was Danjuma when Mallam Adamu Ciroma threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable if Jonathan defeated the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Buhari? Where was this so-called statesman when the APC campaign Director-General, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, threatened to form a parallel government if President Jonathan wins the 2015 elections? Where was he when Dr. Junaid Muhammed, Buhari and Atiku Abubakar all said in separate interviews that the nation will boil if Jonathan won the election in 2011?

“Gen. Danjuma should be reminded that the devilish treaty that brought the Southern and Northern Protectorates together in 1914, expired last year. Danjuma and his likes should be grateful to President Jonathan, who has been keeping this country together.

“If not for President Jonathan, there would not be a Nigeria any more. Danjuma and his cohorts should be reminded of the saying that ‘those who live in glass house should not throw stones. Is it the interest of Nigeria that Gen. Danjuma is protecting or his oil bloc in the Niger Delta?” Tompolo asked.

Danjuma calls for Tompolo, Dokubo, others arrest over war threat

*Says call for war by ex-militants irresponsible

*Accuses politicians of deviating from issue-based campaigns

By Abdulsalam Muhammad

KANO— Former Defence Minister, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (Ret), has called for the arrest of Asari Dokubo, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, General Boyloaf and others over recent war threats by the ex-Niger Delta militants.

General Danjuma, who spoke to reporters at the permanent site of multi-billion naira North-West University, Kano, said the drumbeats of war by the Niger Delta militants was highly irresponsible.

He said:  “Those were reckless statements coming from irresponsible individuals; they should be condemned and be arrested immediately”.

The ex-militants had at a  meeting with Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, at the Government House, Yenagoa, weekend, threatened to declare war against the country in the event that President Jonathan loses his re-election bid.

Danjuma, who refused to comment on the inaction of the President over the drumbeat of war by his kinsmen, condemned Nigerian politicians for sacrifing issues-based campaign for slander.

Danjuma, also a former Chief of Army Staff, however, cautioned on the need to reverse current trends where politicians were having a field day denigrating one another in the build-up to the general elections, pointing out that such unwholesome practice was counter-productive to democracy.

General Danjuma commended Kwankwaso over the infrastructure development of Kano State, adding that the legacy was worth emulating by other stakeholders in the polity.

He also identified lack of continuity as the bane of Nigeria’s infrastructure development and appealed to successive administrations at each tier of government to embrace continuity in collective interest of the nation.

“Governor Kwankwaso is leaving behind a lasting and enduring legacy for Kano and we hope his successor would consolidate on the gains,” Danjuma said.

Aide in court for defrauding Danjuma of N2bn

A special assistant to former Defence Minister, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma (retd), Manasseh Zorto, was on Friday brought before a Federal High Court in Lagos State for allegedly defrauding his boss of N2bn.

The suspect, who was said to be on the run, could not be arraigned before Justice Okon Abang on Friday.

When the matter was called, the counsel to the Special Fraud Unite, Chief Godwin Obla, said the police were having challenges in bringing the accused to court.

He said the police would apply for bench warrant for the arrest of the suspect.

Obla said: “My lord, we are in court today so as not to allow the matter to be unattended to. We humbly pray the court to grant us more time to bring the accused to court for arraignment.

“For now, we don’t want to apply for bench warrant but we will make more efforts to arrest the accused.”

Justice Abang consequently fixed October 2 for the arraignment.

According to the charge sheet, Zorto was said to have fraudulently used his position as an employee of Tita-Kuru Petrochemicals Limited, T.Y Holdings Limited and Central Realities Limited, all companies linked to Danjuma, to steal about N2bn from the companies.
