Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan at the weekend stormed Kenya’s Maasai Mara Games Reserve in two chartered planes.

One of the planes carried Kenya State security and the second was occupied by Jonathan, his wife Patience and two of their children.

He is at the reserve for a three-day tour to witness the wildebeest migration.

Jonathan was booked at the new Angama Mara Lodge at the Oloololo conservancy.

The ex-president was received by Narok Governor Samuel Tunai.

Tunai, who is also the Council of Governors tourism committee chairman, said more than 500,000 tourists from all over the world are expected to witness the spectacular crossing of wildebeest across the crocodile-infested Mara River.

Jonathan, who refused to speak with reporters on his arrival to the reserve, according to Kenya media, is the second dignitary to visit the reserve in less than a fortnight after the King of Swasiland, Mswati III. The king was booked in the same lodge six days ago.

The owner of the hotel, Nicky Fitzgerald, said this tourism peak season is different from the past as prominent personalities from across the world have been calling for bookings.

“We have received Mr Jonathan, King Mswati III, a Chinese prominent family and we are expecting other royalties,” said Ms Fitzgerald.

Ms Fitzgerald said United States (U.S.) President Barrack Obama’s visit last month was a boost for tourism in Kenya.

The trooping in of world leaders to Kenya is expected to boost the tourism sector, which is recovering from travel advisories.

Britain has withdrawn travel advisories against Kenya and America is expected to follow suit. “Starting of direct flights between Kenya and the U.S. as Obama promised would really promote trade and tourism,” said Ms Fitzgerald.

Wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan said Tuesday in Akure, Ondo state that a vote for the APC presidential Candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is a vote to send Nigerians to Prison.

Speaking to a Mammoth crowd at the PDP national rally held at the Gani Fawehinmi freedom Arcade ground in Akure, Dame Jonathan said Gen Buhari is a dictator.

According to her, a dictator will always be a dictator no matter how his handlers white wash him. Nigerians should not make that mistake because a vote for Buhari is a vote to send people to Prison.

She begged Nigerians not to be carried away by the Change mantra of the opposition saying its a deceit.

According to her” a vote for Buhari it is vote for prison while a vote for Jonathan is a vote for continuity, transformation and positive development.

She described the APC as a party of liars, propagandists adding that the party has “nothing to offer but to grab power by all means”

Dame Jonathan said the Jonathan administration impacted the lives of women more than any administration before him

” Do not vote for the candidate of the APC who do not have regard for the women.

She pointed out that out of 42 Federal executive council member under President Jonathan 16 were women

” This is pay back time for President Jonathan all our women should come out on saturday and cast their vote for him

According to him the President has promised to give 40 percent political positions to the women if re elected.

The wife of the President said Nigerians should nail the political coffin of Gen Buhari next Saturday by not voting for him.

She said, “If you vote Buhari, you vote for prison. When the PDP is busy building schools, they are busy thinking of building jails.

“We will not allow our children to be put in jail, God forbid. We pray for oneness, we pray for unity, we pray for peace.”

Patience urged the women to come out on Saturday and vote for “the government that has provided more access to education and health care and brought down by 50 per cent the maternal mortality rate.”

“He was a former Head of State, he did not build Almajiri schools. It was Goodluck Jonathan that built the schools.

“Ask him what he did for women when he was Head of State. It was Goodluck Jonathan that remembered women,” she said.

Dame Jonathan listed all the achievement of the president in the area of education, transportation, Agriculture, oil and gas, power, aviation, trade and investment health and security

The wife of the state governor Mrs Olukemi Mimiko said the state will deliver 90percent votes for the President.

Mrs Mimiko said that the women in the state are convince that a vote for President Jonathan will make a difference their lives and that of their husbands and children

Governor Olusegun Mimiko said under President Jonathan maternal mortality rate has reduced by 50percent.

He pointed out that it was that bad before the President assumed office as an average of 96 women die every month because of maternal mortality.

The governor who said Ondo state is Jonathan territory said the woman in the state will vote enmass for him on Saturday having impacted their lives positively under the Micro credit loans and his other laudable Programmes.

Abuja – The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Wednesday appealed to Nigerian youths to always put the nation first and embrace peace to foster development in the country.

Mrs. Jonathan said this while receiving various youth leaders who visited the State House in Abuja as part of activities ahead of the National Youth Peace Concert.

The concert is scheduled for Saturday, March 8 in Abuja.

The youth leaders, who were led by three personalities, said they were at the Villa to chart a course for the concert.

The three personalities included Mike Omeri, Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), and Onyeka Onwenu, Director-General, National Women Development Centre (NWDC).

The other one is Jude Imagwe, the Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Youth and Student Affairs.

“I invited you here today for two reasons. One of them is to work with you to make Nigeria a better place for us to live in, and the other one is to ensure our states, local government areas, regions and zones are peaceful.

“No one can do it all, we need collective efforts to make Nigeria a better place to live in. Please, put the nation first, because no other country is better than ours,’’ the First Lady said.

She said the concert would be a turnaround for youths as it would enlighten them on peaceful ways to co-habit with their neighbours and thereby shun violence.

Dame Patience Jonathan decried the ongoing killings in Borno, saying the killing of students and other Nigerians was a dastard act as the youths are the nation’s future hope.

“Today, I have two children. If they get killed, life is not worth living for me. Why will anyone therefore want to kill people’s children? No mother will like to suffer in vain.

“Our joy is in the youths. You are the hope of Nigeria, the hope of tomorrow. I don’t want to lose any of you.

“Please, be co-ordinated, and also be good ambassadors at the concert so that the foreigners can take good news back home about us,’’ she said.

While responding individually, Yinka Gbadebo, Usman Ibrahim, Amina Abdulone and Dauda Abduljelil who were among speakers, spoke for the youths and also proffered solutions to the country’s insecurity problems.

“I appeal that your peace initiative should extend to the campuses which are the intellectual community of the nation.

“Also, our campuses in the North should be more secured so that our brothers and sisters can be safe.

“I also appeal that as you have successfully advocated for 35 per cent for women, advocate for 20 per cent for the youths so that we can be involved in governance and drastically reduce unemployment among us,’’ Gbadebo said.

Ibrahim, on his part, said: “I lost a namesake the oldest son of my sister and a friend in the Buni Yadi killings.

“The situation is pathetic. Satanic people are killing our brothers and sisters every day, and we need solutions fast.’’

Also, Abdulone said: “This concert is coming at a very crucial time for the nation. I grew up and schooled in Yobe, but when I went back there two weeks ago, I wept. We need to help the women who bear the brunt of any conflict’’.

On his part, Abduljelil said: “Our lives are at stake. No one understands what’s happening. It’s not about the North East but about Nigeria. The elite have created this monster eating deep into us.

“These were youths who were dedicated to working for this country but someone has polluted their minds and turned them against the system.

“We need to reach out to our brothers and bring them back to the path of peace. I’ll also laud the activities of the civilian JTF who are unarmed and unpaid, and yet risk their lives daily in the quest for peace.’’
