Nyanya bombing: Police, Dss fallout in court over Sadiq Ogwuche"s trial

The planned arraignment of the alleged mastermind of the April 14, bomb blast that killed over 75 persons at a motor park in Nyanya Abuja, Aminu Ogwuche, was stalled yesterday owing to bickering between the Department of State Service, DSS, and the Nigerian Police Force, over which of them should be allowed to conduct the trial.

Sequel to a heated argument that ensued between lawyers from the two security agencies yesterday, the Judge in charge of the case, Justice Ademola Adeniyi, said he was left with no option than to adjourn the matter till November 10, to enable Federal Government to put its house in order.

It will be recalled that Federal Government had in its bid to expedite the process of extraditing the accused person from Sudan where he escaped to shortly after the terrorist attack, entered a three-count criminal charge before the High Court. –

The charge which was endorsed by the Inspector General of Police, was still pending before the High Court when the accused person was successfully returned to the country with the help of the Interpol in Sudan.

Meanwhile, upon taking custody of the accused person, the DSS, promptly approached the high court for an order permitting it to retain him in detention until the conclusion of investigations into the matter.

Following the DSS application which was filed before another judge of the high court, the agency was granted 90 days to conduct and conclude its investigations.

Meantime, at yesterday’s proceeding, Police lawyer, Mr. Oloye Torugbene, urged the court to okay the accused to take his plea to the subsisting three-count charge.

His application was vehemently opposed by DSS lawyer Mr. Clifford Osagie, who drew the attention of the court to the 90 days order of the sister court, noting that the investigative period had yet to elapse.

Consequently, Osagie urged the Police to withdraw the pending charge which he said was only drafted for the purpose of securing the accused person back to the country.

“My Lord our investigation is still going on. This is a terrorism case that requires holistic a holistic investigation, before the 90 days ordered by the court elapses, we must have completed our investigation and file in our report to the Attorney General of the Federation for further directives”, Osagie submitted.

Though the DSS declined to produce Ogwuche in court yesterday, it told the court that he was safely in custody.

In a short ruling, Justice Ademola, adjourned the case and directed that the accused should be brought to court on November 10.

Ogwuche was in the charge before the court, alleged to have conspired with others (at large), to commit an act of terrorism by detonating improvised explosive devices at Nyanya Motor Park, which resulted in the death of 75 persons and injuring over a hundred other persons.

Count two of the charge reads, “That you, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, Male, and others now at large, on the 14th of April, 2014 at Nyanya, FCT, Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did facilitate the activities of persons engaged in an act of terrorism; by detonating improvised explosive devices at the Nyanya motor park which resulted in the death of 75 persons and injuring over a hundred other persons.”

The alleged offences were said to be punishable under sections 1 (2) (d) and 17 of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act of 2013.

I enjoy killing people - Sadiq Ogwuche, Nyanya bomber

  • — Stunning confession of captured Boko Haram Terrorist, Ogwuche Says I won’t beg for forgiveness

Preliminary interrogation of Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche Nyanya bomb blast suspect who was recently extradited from Sudan, has began with stunning observation at State Security Service (SSS) Headquarters in Abuja. Contrary to the expectation of interrogation officers that Ogwuche will become sober as a result of his ordeal and probably ask for forgiveness. He is allegedly defiant and vowing to continue with what he termed as spiritual revolution at the least opportunity.

Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, Nyanya Bomber Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, Nyanya Bomber

The suspected terrorist, who was wearing trousers and long sleeve with blue colour stripes, said in fluent English language that he has no regrets for his dastardly act in the April 14, 2014 bomb blast that killed over 70 people and injured about 120 others at Nyanya area of Abuja.

“I don’t deny that I am the executioner of the Nyanya bomb incident. I did it in order to draw government’s attention to our demands. We want our detained colleagues released and compensation paid to those of our colleagues who were killed by the federal troops during operations. We want Islamic rule in the whole of northern Nigeria.

Western education is a sin against Allah. It’s time for dialogue between government and Boko Haram leaders for the way out of the deadlock,” he was quoted as saying.

Ogwuche was immediately taken into custody from the special flight which touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 3 pm on Tuesday July 15, 2014. The flight arrived from Khartoum, Sudan, to hand the returnee fugitive over to Nigeria Security Forces for interrogation. On hand to receive him at the Presidential wing of the airport were spokepersons of the police, ACP Frank Mba, Department of State Services, Marilyn Ogar, Major General Chris Olukolade of the Army and coordinator, National Information Centre, Mike Omeri.

National Daily sources said Ogwuche had camouflaged as a student of Arabic language at the International University of Africa, Sudan, before eagle eyed security operatives uncovered and arrested him.

He was extradited after nearly three months of intensed diplomatic and security engagement between the federal government and the Sudanese counterpart. National Daily learned that stringent efforts were being made to extradite other fugitive suspected terrorists from Sudan and other African countries.

“This is a great break through for the security forces especially the International Police (Interpol). The department of state services in Nigeria collaborated with the Nigerian police to achieve this feat. They got the Interpol to be involved in the intelligence and strategic planning which resulted in the arrest of Aminu Ogwuche.

So, Ogwuche is right now with the State Security Services who are closely working with the police,” said an informed security source, adding: “His preliminary interrogation has began. We know it is the duty of the police to prosecute but we are talking about national security here. So far, Ogwuche is facing preliminary interrogation by a team comprised of SSS officials and the police. I can tell you that he was first detained at Abuja Interpol office before he was moved to an undisclosed DSS detention centre in Abuja. He is expected to be handed over to the Police for prosecution.

“The government must do something now or the bombing will continue. There is no regretting anything because we are fighting a just cause to liberate our people from western education and religion,” the light complexioned and gaunt looking suspected terrorist said.

Ogwuche vowed not to forgive the federal government for waging war against Islamic fundamentalists in the country saying that Boko Haram highest echelon is prepared to contain government determined onslaught against terrorists.

“Federal government has been trying without success to wipe out Boko Haram. They killed our leader, Muhammed Yusuf and hundreds of others yet we still exist. We are a force to be recognized. You ignore us at your own peril. We are particularly pained by the killing of hundreds of our members across the forest in northern part of the country.

Although we equally killed federal troops, we will never forgive the federal government for the incessant killings. We are well armed to fight back and we will never surrender.

Boko Haram is well funded and highly equipped organization with capacity to take over the whole country if it so desires,” Ogwuche ranted.

The Nyanya bomb blast mastermind boasted that he is still lusting to shed more blood of those he described as “infidels.”

“If I am left alone, I will still kill those infidels who have refused to repent of their sins against Allah. This is my mission on earth. My mission is to wipe out infidels from the face of the earth. You call me bomb detonator, and I love that. I am ready to kill again. In fact, I enjoy killing people who are unbelievers; those deceived by western education and disobedient to Allah and his holy Koran. I don’t care what will happen to me now because if I die, I shall go to heaven for doing god’s work. I won’t beg anybody for forgiveness but I can assure you that my so called trial will not be an easy exercise. If I like, I plead not guilty in court to make things difficult for the federal government but inside my mind, I know I did the damn thing. It is my word against federal government evidence. I know a little bit about the intricacies of the law through the study of several law books. Nobody can push me around because I am not a fool,” said Ogwuche who was born in the United Kingdom.

The captured fugitive terrorist who regaled his interrogators with gory tale of his exploits in the world of violence said he and hundreds of Boko Haram members were trained in Somalia and Pakistan in the science of terrorism. “I don’t deny that we have links with foreign terrorist groups. We have many friends as well as may enemies. It doesn’t matter if I am killed others will continue the struggle. There are millions of Boko Haram members in Nigeria and overseas. Was our great leader Mohammed Yusuf not killed, did his death lead to the end of the Boko Haram? We are determined to start a big jihad across the nation, first, wait and see. Our is something like spiritual revolution. When they arrested Kabiru Sokoto, they celebrated as if Boko Haram is all about Kabiru Sokoto. That is how they celebrated the death of Yusuf Mohammed. They will keep celebrating individuals while million agents of Boko Haram operate,” Ogwuche said.

National Daily learned that before he was extradited to Nigeria, Oguche has been in detention in Sudan since he was declared wanted by the Department of State Security which identified him as the mastermind of the Nyanya, Abuja bomb blast along with one Rufai Tsega who is still at large.

Before his arrest and detention in Sudan by Interpol, the Department of State Security, had on May 11, 2014, announced a N25 million reward for any one who could give information that could lead to the arrest of Ogwuche and Tsiga.

As SSS official described Ogwuche Ogwuche who was born in the United Kingdom as any army deserter who served in the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Army at Child Avenue, Arakan Barracks, Lagos, between 2001 and 2006.

Five suspects, including Ahmed Abubakar, 43, Mohammed Ishag 30, Yari Sandu, 28, Anas Isah 22 and Adamu Yusuf, a cleric, 43, have already been paraded for their alleged involvement in the bombing.

During his preliminary interrogation recently, Ogwuche was said to have disclosed that he specialized in assuming any character he wishes to assume. “I can become anything in other to hide my true identity. That is part of our training. While in Sudan, I camouflaged as a student to evade the security. I was surprised that they got me at last.

I received part of my training in Somalia because there are so many knowledgeable foreign and local terrorist agents there. It is the same in Sudan but the difference is that in Somalia, you have a lot of caves to hide from security agents. I use to go to Somalia in order to meet other terrorists there,” Ogwuche was quoted by a security source as having said.

The unrepentant terror suspect also allegedly told his captors of how he usually sneaked into the country from his hide out overseas to unleash mayhem and escape without being captured. “We used to come in from Chad-Niger border and carry out our activities. But owing to security presence, we shifted to Cameroonian border in Mambisa. But the Army people will not allow us to rest. They killed a lot of our people there and we ran for our dear life,” said Ogwuche who talked about how he escaped from Nigeria after the Nyanya blast.

“I had the arrangement ready, all the funds and logistics to enable me escape. Immediately after the blast, I was taken away from the apian way unknown to security operatives.”

Earlier reports on the arrest of Ogwuche, indicated that the Sudanese authorities were reluctant to extradite him to Nigeria as a result of interference by a top Northern Emir among other interests.

It was however, learned that it was in a bid to circumvent these ‘interests’ that the process of extradition of the suspect to the country was made top secret by security operatives until his arrival in the country yesterday afternoon.

In line with the security ploy to keep Ogwuche’s extradition secret, the Police headquarters had sent an SMS inviting newsmen to cover the unveiling of a “Special Counter Terrorism equipment” at the airport, only for Ogwuche to be introduced as the “equipment.”

Commenting on Ogwuche’s extradition earlier in the day, the Sudanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Tagelsir Mahgoub, who was apparently not aware that the suspect was already in the country, said: “All the papers (for his extradition) were signed by the two parties (Nigeria and Sudan).

“What we are waiting for now is for the Nigerian government to send a delegation that will come to our embassy to get their visas because everything has been concluded.

“And I must say that there should not be any delay, because it will delay the whole process.”

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, MD Abubakar, while commending the personnel of the Nigeria Police Interpol Unit for a job well done, noted that the successful repatriation of the terror fugitive to Nigeria shows that the global coalition against terrorism championed by Nigeria is beginning to yield the desired result.

“Following the conclusion of tortuous legal and diplomatic processes between Nigeria and the Republic of Sudan, the co-mastermind of the Nyanya Motor Park bombing in which scores of citizens died and hundreds wounded, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche was Tuesday, 15th July, 2014 extradited to the country from Sudan where he had taken refuge.

Aminu Ogwuche who was handed over to the Interpol Unit of the Nigeria Police Force by the Sudanese Authorities was flown into the country in a special flight from Khartoum which touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. It would be recalled that the terror fugitive who had long since been arrested in Sudan following an international red notice issued for his arrest by the Nigeria National Bureau of Interpol had not been repatriated to the country before now due to some necessary processes involved in transferring suspects from one country to another.

Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche is a British born terrorist and Nigerian army deserter associated with the Boko Haram terror group and suspected of being one of the organizers of bomb attacks in the Nigerian capital Abuja. Ogwuche is the son of a retired Nigerian Army colonel and an indigene of Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA, Benue State, Nigeria. According to the Department of State Security, Ogwuche served in the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Army at Child Avenue, Arakan Barracks, Lagos, between 2001 and 2006 with service Number 95/104 and is reported to have deserted in 2006.

Ogwuche is a student of Arabic Language at the International University of Africa, Sudan and studied for a degree in Business Science at the University of Glamorgan between 2007 and 2010 but failed to finish the course and was not awarded a degree. Ogwuche was first arrested in Nigeria in 2011 but released in 2012 Ogwuche was arrested by Interpol in Sudan on an international warrant in connection with the April 2014 Abuja bombing in the suburb of Nyanya, which killed 75 people on 14 April 2014 and the May 2014 Abuja bombing which killed 19 people on 1 May 2014. Ogwuche is also wanted in connection with the Chibok schoolgirl kidnapping. Ogwuche, served in the intelligence unit of the Nigerian Army between 2001 and 2006.

The efforts by Nigeria’s security agencies led by the Department of State Security Services (SSS) to apprehend those behind the April 14 bomb blast at a motor park in Nyanya, Abuja, paid off with the arrest of a co-mastermind of the dastardly act.

“Rufai Abubakar Tsiga, a Boko Haram leader, is the mastermind of the bombing of April 14, 2014 at El-Rufai Motor Park, Abuja.Tsiga was actively aided by a co-mastermind, AminuSadiq Ogwuche”, Ogar said.

Earlier, the service had paraded five suspects Ahmad Abubakar (aka Abu Ibrahim/Mai Turare), Mohammed Ishaq, Yau Saidu (aka Kotar Rama) AnasIsah and Adamu Yusuf they confessed to been privy to the plot to bomb Nyanya.

Ogwuche, the son of a retired army colonel, Agene Ogwuche, was reportedly arrested through the help of the Military Attaché to the Nigerian High Commission in Sudan with the help of international security operatives, National Daily Newspaper learned.

Nigerians are anxiously waiting for the urgent extradition of other suspected terror-fugitives. Most importantly, Nigerians want an end to this carnage. (National Daily)

Nyanya Bomber: Islamic Monarch under probe for Boko Haram links

*After three days wait in Khartoum, jet returns to Nigeria without suspect

There were strong indications, yesterday, that the security services have commenced a high-level investigation of a monarch in northern Nigeria, suspected to have links with the members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, which, in English, means, “People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet’s Teachings and Jihad”, otherwise known as Boko Haram.

Nyanya-extradition

The investigation followed the intelligence gathered from Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, regarding difficulties being faced by Nigeria in extraditing Aminu-Sadiq Ogwuche, the alleged mastermind of the April 14, 2014, bombing of Nyanya motor-park, near Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, where over 100 lives were lost.

Sunday Vanguard was made to understand that, penultimate week, the “situation was so embarrassing that the jet, provided by the Nigerian government to convey the suspect from the Sudanese capital, Khatoum, returned after waiting for three days without making a headway in the extradition process”.

Information made available, late last night, from the base of the traditional ruler, Sudan and Abuja, suggested that the focus of the investigation of the monarch had to do with funding and remittances allegedly made with a view to blocking the extradition of Ogwuche.

It was learnt from the multiple high-level sources that the sudden uncooperative disposition of the Sudanese government in the matter “is not unconnected with the influence which the traditional ruler is known to wield in Sudan, as well as his contacts over the years in that Islamic country”.

All efforts to get official confirmation from the National Information Centre, the body saddled with the co-ordination and dissemination of information regarding the war on terror, proved abortive.

However, sources in the intelligence community insisted that a good lead was being followed in the matter concerning the monarch.

“It is something that is very discreet that we are doing but I will neither confirm nor deny to you that we are carrying out investigation to substantiate the claims of complicity by the monarch”, a highly placed source said.

It was discovered that the main reason for the “forceful blocking of the extradition of Ogwuche is to stall any possibility of his return to Nigeria and buckle under intense interrogation and possibly reveal the names of the sponsors of the insurgents”, the source said.

Indeed, the Sudanese Embassy in Nigeria may be playing footsy as our correspondent, Victoria Ojeme, who had earlier interviewed the country’s ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Tagelsir Mahgoub Ali, spent over four hours at the embassy, on Friday, in her quest to seek clarifications on the extradition saga.

The interview with the ambassador had been published last month and it centred on the anticipated cooperation of Sudan in extraditing the Nyanya bombing suspect to Nigeria.

But, on Friday, all efforts to get the ambassador to clear the air on the monarch’s links to the continuing difficulty being encountered by Nigeria in the extradition of the suspect did not yield positive result.

However, after the over four-hour wait at the embassy, what Sunday Vanguard got was to the effect that the case was being handled by Interpol and it had received a court order from Nigeria while there is an Interpol procedure which, as soon as it is properly followed to the letter, “everything will be in place”.

President Jonathan and Omar Albashir of Sudan

At press time, Sunday Vanguard was told by a top security source: “President Goodluck Jonathan is ready to go to any length, working with the security agencies, to get to the root of the matter and ensure that Nigerians are spared the terror unleashed by insurgents. Nobody, no matter how highly placed in the society, would be spared and the country is ready to ensure that Ogwuche is brought back to this country to face the consequences of his alleged action”.

`No extradition treaty’

Saturday Vanguard had, yesterday, reported that Sudan’s refusal to extradite Ogwuche followed the alleged intervention of the monarch. He was said to have moved in to stop the extradition of the suspect using the instrumentality of his alma mater, African International University, in Sudan.

Apart from this, Sudan whose President, Omar al-Bashir, is wanted by the International Criminal Court, ICC, for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, has no bilateral agreement with any country in the world on extradition of criminals.

The monarch, who was said to have used alma mater on several occasions to recommend and secure admission for some Nigerian youths in Sudan, allegedly used his influence to reach out to some old students of the university to frustrate the extradition of Ogwuche possibly to prevent Nigerian security from getting details from the suspect on some of the financiers of Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.

Ogwuche was declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS, after linking him to the deadly blast in Nyanya which claimed over 75 lives.

However, the arraignment in absentia was again allegedly questioned by the Sudanese government which also doubted the genuineness of the allegations against the suspected terrorist, saying that he (Ogwuche) could have been framed.

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, had, shortly after the Nyanya bomb blast, hinted that Interpol had issued a red alert for the arrest of Ogwuche, who was once arrested on suspicion of terrorism but released following pressure from human rights groups and the father of the suspect. Also, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, and Coordinator of the National Information Centre, NIC, Mike Omeri, had said that Ogwuche, who had been on the wanted list of the security agencies, was arrested in Sudan.

Omeri, who was surrounded then by spokespersons of the military, the police and the DSS, said security agencies in the country were working with their counterparts in Sudan to extradite the suspect, who was a deserter of the Nigerian Army.

Deputy Director in charge of Public Relations at the DSS, Marylyn Ogar, also hinted that security agencies discovered that the suspect had escaped to Sudan, when his father could not produce him.

The discovery of the Ogwuche’s escape to Sudan while five others were arrested prompted the DSS to declare him wanted alongside one other suspect.

“Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, who was earlier declared wanted, has been arrested in Sudan with the efforts of the army, the DSS, the National Bureau of the Interpol based at the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters and security operatives in Sudan”, Omeri said.

“The efforts of the Interpol, Nigerian Police and the DSS led to his arrest”.

He promised that further information on him and the second suspect would be communicated to the public as they come in.

Ogwuche, an alleged army deserter, was said to have dropped out of university in Britain. He reportedly served in a Nigerian intelligence unit.

Aminu-Sadiq – Sudan government refuses extradiction of Nyanya bomb blast attacker

The extradition of the mastermind of the April 14, 2014, bombings of Nyanya-Abuja Motor Park that claimed the lives of about 100 people, Aminu-Sadiq Ogwuche might take longer than expected.

For now, it has hit the rock.

This is because the Sudanese government was said to have refused to cooperate with the Nigerian officials in their effort to extradite the suspect.

Aminu-Sadiq-Ogwuche

Saturday Vanguard gathered that Sudan’s refusal to extradite Ogwuche followed the alleged intervention of a powerful Nigerian in one of the traditional institutions in Nigeria. He was was said to have moved in to stop the extradition of Ogwuche using the instrumentality of his Alma Mata, African International University, in Sudan.

Apart from this, Sudan whose President, Omar al-Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, ICC, for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, has no bilateral agreement with any country in the world on extradition of criminals.

Reliable security sources in Abuja said that the Nigerian, who has used the Alma Mata on several occasions to recommend and secure admission for some willing Nigerians youths in Sudan, is believed to have used his influence to reach out to some old students of the university to frustrate the extradition of Ogwuche possibly to prevent Nigerian security from getting details from the suspect on some of the financiers of Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.

According to the sources, a team of Nigerian officials including security agents who travelled to Sudan with the aim of effecting the extradition or bringing back Ogwuche were turned back on the claims by the Sudanese officials that there was no court order for the arrest of the suspect.

It was learnt that when the officials of the Nigerian security agencies arrived Khartoum, Sudan last week for the hand-over of Ogwuche by the Sudanese authorities, they were faced with conditions that were unknown to them particularly against the backdrop of the fact that Sudan was not a signatory to any convention on the extradition of criminals and terrorists.

Saturday Vanguard further gathered that the Sudanese authorities pointedly told the Nigerian security officials that they needed the Court papers particularly the charge sheet detailing the offences for which Ogwuche was being tried and declared wanted.

Ogwuche’s wife, who is based in Sudan is believed to be the interface between the Nigerian Emir and her husband’s lawyer that are battling to get the suspected terrorist out of the hook in Sudan.

The failure of the officials to bring Ogwuche back to the country was said to have informed the arraignment of Ogwuche (in absentia) along with some of his accomplices for terror related offences in an Abuja court last Tuesday.

Ogwuche was declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS, after linking him to the deadly blast in Nyanya which claimed over 75 lives.

However, the arraignment of Ogwuche in absentia was again allegedly questioned by the Sudanese government which also doubted the genuineness of the allegations against the suspected terrorist, saying that he (Ogwuche) could have been framed.

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, had shortly after the Nyanya bomb blast hinted that Interpol had issued a red alert for the arrest of Ogwuche, who was once arrested on suspicion of terrorism but released following pressure from human rights groups and the father of the suspect. Also, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA and Coordinator of the National Information Centre, NIC, Mike Omeri, had said that Ogwuche, who had been on the wanted list of the security agencies was arrested in Sudan.

Omeri, who was surrounded then by spokespersons of the military, the police and the Department of State Services, DSS, said the security agencies in the country were working with their counterparts in Sudan to extradite the suspect, who was a deserter of the Nigerian Army, back to the country.

Deputy Director in charge of Public Relations at the DSS, Marylyn Ogar, had also hinted that the security agencies discovered that Ogwuche had escaped to Sudan, when his father could not produce him.

The discovery of the Ogwuche’s escape to Sudan while five others were arrested prompted the DSS to declare him wanted alongside with one other suspect.

“Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche who was earlier declared wanted has been arrested in Sudan with the efforts of the Army, DSS, the National Bureau of the Interpol based at the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters and security operatives in Sudan.

“The efforts of the interpol, Nigerian Police and the DSS led to his arrest,” Omeri said.

He promised that further information on him and the second suspect would be communicated to the public as they come in.’’

Ogwuche, an Army deserter was said to have dropped out of university in Britain. He served in a Nigerian intelligence unit.

The University of South Wales confirmed that he studied at the institution between 2007 and 2010, when it was known as the University of Glamorgan, but said he failed to complete his course.

WalesOnline, a Welsh news site, reported that Ogwuche was a member of the university’s debating society and wrote on an online professional profile that his goal was “to be a successful businessman.”

But it said the Business Science student had made increasingly radical postings on his Facebook page in 2010 and 2011, under a profile picture with the word “Asadullah”, meaning “Lion of God.”

The university told the site in a statement: “Aminu Ogwuche was a student at the former University of Glamorgan between 2007 and 2010 but didn’t go on to complete his studies at the university.”

It said the institution was “surprised” to hear of his alleged involvement with Boko Haram, saying: “There were no reported indications of extremist behaviour during his time as a student.

“There has been no contact between Mr Ogwuche and the university following his departure in 2010,” the institution stated.

Aminu-Sadiq-Ogwuche

Ogwuche was arrested in Sudan following an international red alert issued for his search and arrest by the National Bureau of Interpol based at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, in Abuja.

The Coordinator of the national briefing centre on security, Mr. Mike Omeri, confirmed his arrest during a briefing in Abuja.

The suspect, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche was declared wanted by the Department of State Security after linking him to the deadly blast in Nyanya which claimed over 74 lives.

Omeri who is also the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA) noted that the security operatives are already working to ensure his extradition to Nigeria from where he was arrested.

According to Omeri, “Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche who was earlier declared wanted has been arrested in Sudan with the efforts of the Army, DSS, the National Bureau of the Interpol based at the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters and security operatives of Sudan.
