Kogi State Governor Idris Wada on Wednesday mocked his rival in the All Progressives Congress, Prince Abubakar Audu, over President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to attend the party’s governorship rally.

Wada said Buhari’s absence at the rally had reinforced the belief of the electorate about the seriousness of the current administration’s commitment to the fight against corruption.

The governor, in two separate statements by his Chief Communications Manager, Mr. Phrank Shaibu; and Special Assistant (Media and Communication), Mr. Jacob Edi, said the President’s refusal to identify with Audu would go a long way in sending the right message to Nigerian youths that the current administration would not want to have anything to do with those who steal or mismanage public funds.

Shaibu said, ‘’It is gratifying that President Muhammadu Buhari heeded our advice and refused to identify with APC candidate for Saturday’s governorship election. His decision to stay away from campaigning for a candidate that is being tried for corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has reinforced the belief of the electorate in Kogi that the current administration is beginning to show commitment to fight corruption.

“Any attempt by Buhari to show public support for Prince Abubakar Audu would not only be a disservice to Nigeria, but will send a clear signal that the wobbly anti-corruption war of the current administration is finally dead.

“Shaibu added that Audu had been facing trial for allegedly stealing money to the tune of N11bn meant for the development of Kogi State.

Edi, in his own statement, said Buhari’s absence had confirmed his integrity.

“Buhari has chosen to sit on his integrity and his absence is a statement that he has zero tolerance for corruption and will not be part of any corrupt practice and arrangement,” he said.
