Some members of the All Progressives Congress, aspiring to contest elective offices in Osun State, have threatened a showdown with Governor Rauf Aregbesola over the allegation that the governor is reserving the party’s nomination forms for some serving legislators.
Three aggrieved aspirants in the party said this in separate interviews with our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday.
The aspirants pleaded not to be mentioned because of fear of persecution from the leadership of the party.
One of them said leaders of the party in Osun State were hoarding nomination forms from all aspirants, who had collected expression of interest forms.
Another aspirant claimed that the governor instructed the leadership of the party to sell only expression of interest forms to all aspirants while he would give the nomination forms to some of the serving legislators who were his “anointed candidates.”
According to him, the two forms are supposed to be sold to each aspirant.
He added that the prices of the two forms vary with senatorial aspirants paying N3m for nomination form and N300,000 for expression of interest form.
He added that House of Representatives aspirants were supposed to pay N2m for nomination form and N200,000 for expression of interest form while aspirants to the House of Assembly would pay N500,000 for nomination form and N50, 000 for expression of interest form.
He said, “Every aspirant in the APC is expected to collect two forms. One is the expression of interest form and the other one is the nomination form.
“The two are supposed to be given to aspirants but what we are seeing in Osun is different. They gave me expression of interest form alone and kept away the nomination form. I found out from other aspirants and they said the same thing.
“I investigated and found out that the governor is the one keeping the nomination form and that he is ready to give same to some of the present lawmakers, who are his preferred aspirants.
“This is undemocratic and we are ready to fight it. If it takes going to institute a legal action against this, I will go ahead and I will get justice. This (planned) imposition is against the party’s constitution.”
But the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, denied the claim of the alleged plan by the governor to impose any candidate.
He described those behind the allegation as members of the opposition party, saying they should ask questions from the party rather than rushing to the press.
