Corruption, saboteurs in military killing anti-terror war - Cleric

President of the Church of Christ in Nations, Rev. Dachollom Datiri, has said the war against insurgency in the country cannot be won because of corruption and the existence of saboteurs in the military.

He said Nigeria is experiencing its darkest moment, but expressed the conviction that the country come out of it.

Datiri, who spoke at the 87th General Church Council in Jos on Tuesday, noted that saboteurs were frustrating efforts to fight the Boko Haram insurgency, adding that the Nigerian military had continued to show that it was incapable of stamping out insurgency in the country.

He said, “The Nigerian army has more and more continued to look inept in fighting this menace. Quite clearly a lot of sabotage is going on and evidence abound that the army is full of fifth columnists.”

The cleric regretted that more than six months after more than 200 girls were abducted from their school in Chibok, Borno State and repeated bombings all over the country, the military had proved incapable of making any concerted efforts to either get them released or stop the spate of bombings in the county.

Datiri added, “The abduction of the over 200 schoolgirls and the repeated Nyanya bombings occurred before our May GCC and since then, we have continued to cry and pray for the release of these girls to no avail. To add salt to injury, more abductions have taken place and town after town in Gwoza, southern Borno and Adamawa states, have fallen under the control of Boko Haram.”

While describing Boko Haram as a terrible ideology, which was brought to northern Nigeria, the cleric said the target was to annihilate Christians and wrestle power from the hands of Christians.
