Police arrest abortion doctor in Benin City

The Managing Director of the Ofure Royal Medical Centre located at Upper Uwa Street, Benin City, Dr. Omokhomion Kingsley, has been arrested for allegedly conducting abortion at his clinic.

Dr. Omokhomion was arrested by operatives of Zonal Criminal Investigation Bureau, Zone 5’ police headquarters, Benin City, after complaints that a woman’s pregnancy was terminated.

Police sources said its operatives brought a patient who posed as pregnant woman and asked for abortion.

The doctor and four nurses at the hospital were arrested while trying to carry out the abortion.

Items recovered at the clinic, according to source included, a lifeless foetus and hospital equipment suspected to be abortion apparatus.

The raid on the clinic followed complaints received by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Mr. Musa Daura, that the woman whose pregnancy was terminated is on a danger list at another hospital.

The acting spokesman for Zone, Emeka Iheanacho, confirmed the doctor’s arrest.

He said they are investigating a case of abortion and that the hospital has been under surveillance.

“All of them were arrested because they were involved in the act and they are telling us their involvement in the act.

“As I am talking to you the person involved is still laying critically in a hospital,” Iheanacho said.

Senegal rape: 11-year-old girl denied abortion gives birth to twin boys

The 10-year-old girl who was raped but unable to terminate her pregnancy due to Senegal’s ban on abortion has given birth to twin boys.

Sexual AbuseIn an interview with the Senegalese women lawyers’ association, the girl, who has just turned 11, was asked whether she was pleased that the rapist – her neighbour – was in police custody. “No,” she answered. “I want him to be killed because he has stopped me from going to school.”

The girl gave birth in the seventh month of her pregnancy, on 21 February. The babies spent a week in an incubator and are understood to be in good health.

“I did not realise I was pregnant. My mother saw my body changing and because I was vomiting she took me to the hospital. In the last few months my head ached and I could hardly stand up.”

Asked what she remembered about the birth she said: “Nothing. I woke up and I realised I was not pregnant any more, and I saw the twins.

“The twins are fine, but they want a lot of breastfeeding, and I do not have enough milk. My mother buys milk at the pharmacy. We are able to buy it, thanks to donations from generous people and a pharmacist who is being very kind,” she said.

The girl’s mother, who sells vegetables at the market, said she had approached a female community leader for advice after doctors confirmed the pregnancy. Her moves to approach the state prosecutor were supported by legal volunteers. The rapist was swiftly taken into police custody, where he awaits trial.

“Towards the end of the pregnancy she could not get up on her own at night and often panicked. Her father, from whom I am divorced, blames me. He says I have not brought her up properly, that’s why it happened. When I told him on the phone that the twins had been born he said, ‘I hear what you say’. Since then he has neither phoned nor come to see us.”

She asked the lawyers’ association to support the girl financially to allow her to continue her education. However, she said her daughter would need to change schools to avoid being bullied by other pupils.

Describing the rape, the 11-year-old said: “My mother had gone to work. There was no one around in my place. I was playing with my friends and I suddenly wanted to go to the toilet. He found me in the toilet and closed the door.”

She said he threatened to kill her if she told anyone of her ordeal. “Afterwards, I had pain at the bottom of my stomach. I could not even walk properly but I forced myself to hold myself well as I was afraid he would kill me.”

She added that the man raped her a second time in the same toilet. “This time he said he would kill not only me but my mother if I told anyone.” (Guardian)

How cleric took a minor for abortion – Medical doctor

A medical doctor, Felix Ogunlade, on Wednesday told an FCT High Court that a 14-year-old rape victim was brought to his clinic for an abortion by an accused, Apostle Basil Princewill.

rapePrincewill, of Mountain Mover Fire Ministry Church, Nyanya, Abuja, was arraigned on five counts of rape and having unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.

Other charges are criminal impersonation, criminal intimidation and assault.

Led in evidence by Simon Lough, the prosecutor, the witness who owned Fantanu Head Medical Centre, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, said the victim was brought for an abortion by her father.

“The victim was brought to my clinic by the accused who claimed to be her father.

“He told me the victim was his daughter and she was raped by their senior pastor’s son.

“He said his daughter was two months pregnant and noticed that his daughter had been trying to abort it.”

The medical practitioner told the court that he tried to question the victim but the accused was answering on her behalf.

He said: “I examined the victim and confirmed that she was pregnant.

“I discovered there was an active bleeding in the vagina and the mouth of the womb was opened with about 3 CM in diametre.

The doctor told the court that the accused was briefed about his findings and he (accused) replied that he did not want his daughter to die.

The witness said that he further briefed the accused that the only way to stop the bleeding was to carry out an evacuation on the victim.

He added that the accused gave him the go ahead for the evacuation and it was carried out on the victim.

The witness said that he suggested to the accused to file a criminal charge against the pastor’s son, but he rejected the suggestion.

“My lord, after that, the accused paid me N2,000 for scanning and also paid N20,000 for the evacuation as at then,” he said.

The doctor’s report was admitted as evidence in court.

After hearing the doctor’s testimony, Justice Hussien Baba-Yusuf adjourned the case until May 9 for continuation of hearing.

The accused allegedly sent for the victim sometime in 2012, saying he had a revelation for her.

The victim had also once told the court that the accused informed her that her step mother was trying to kill her.

She added that the Lord directed that a quick deliverance must be carried out on her. (0)
