No evidence that Obasanjo is corrupt - Oby Ezekwesili insists

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has defended her claim that there is no empirical evidence that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo is corrupt.

It will be recalled that Ezekwesili during an interview on Al Jazeera, said that there was no evidence of corruption in the former President’s regime despite reports to the contrary

“There was no way it could have been more corrupt that the government of Abacha. I am sorry,” she said speaking of Obasanjo’s regime, where she served as a Minister.

When asked about a Wikileaks report which quoted former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu as saying that everyone was a thief in Obasanjo’s government, Mrs Ezekwesili said:

“The next person you should invite to your show should be Nuhu Ribadu. Its not about rejecting his views. I don’t have counter-factory evidence on the basis to reject it”

When asked about her opinion on how corrupt Obasanjo was, she said:

“Is that supposed to be a question on the basis of some factual thing that you are putting before me? My sense of President Obasanjo was that he gave me the freedom to define the work that I did that public procurement was more transparent than it used to be.”

She has taken to her Twitter page to defend her stance, insisting there is no empirical evidence that Obasanjo is corrupt.

200th day: Make rescue of Chibok girls top priority, Ezekwesili pleads

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor

The rescue of the 219 girls abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State by insurgents of the Islamist Boko Haram group must take priority over every other activity, Bringbackourgirls campaigner, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili has said.

BBOGSpeaking ahead of the 200th day today, of the abduction of the school girls, Mrs. Ezekwesili expressed sorrow over the continued abduction of the girls who she said, should not be allowed to abide a day longer in the captivity of the insurgents.

She rebuffed a direct response to the spate of political activities connected to the forthcoming elections saying tersely that every other thing was insignificant to the efforts to liberate the girls.

“As far as we are concerned, we are not looking at any other thing, we are just interested in the Federal Government living up to its responsibility, the need to rescue the Chibok girls,” Mrs. Ezekwesili a former minister of education and vice-president in World Bank said.

“Every other thing pales into insignificance to the lives of 219 citizens of Nigeria who should not be in the enemy’s den for 200 days now,” she reiterated.

276 girls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok were abducted by the insurgents on the night of April 14, 2014 in an operation that initially raised doubts among some sections of the government and the polity. 57 of the girls reportedly escaped from the captivity of the insurgents the abduction has drawn worldwide condemnation from all sections of the world.

Efforts by the government to rescue the girls have so far been unsuccessful despite the alleged deployment of international assistance from some western nations.

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, AVM Alex Badeh had on October 17, 2014 announced a ceasefire with the insurgents in a move that was believed to be a step towards the release of the school girls, but the ceasefire has so far failed to lead to a truce with continued reports of attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents.

APC Calls for CP Mbu’s Dismissal Over #Bringbackourgirls Saga

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, has called for the dismissal of Mr Joseph Mbu, the controversial FCT Police Commissioner who on Monday banned the peaceful protests by the Oby Ezekwesili-led #BringBackOurGirls coalition, only to be over-ruled by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.

CP Joseph MbuRivers APC described Mbu’s action as “the height of embarrassment for the Nigeria Police,” and demanded that “Mr Mbu should be shown the way out of the Force now before he drags the name of the Force deeper into the mud.”

Rivers APC in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by the State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said that “Mr. Mbu obviously did not clear with his superior, the IGP, a disgraceful action that illustrates his disdain for good order, decorum and constituted authority.”

“How on earth could CP Mbu outlaw the #BringBackOurGirls peaceful rallies aimed at awaking President Jonathan Goodluck and his Presidency from their slumber on the security challenges and the shame arising from the kidnap of over 250 of our girls and our future mothers by the evil-minded Boko Haram? Does it mean that Mr. Mbu does not know that peaceful protest s a right guaranteed all Nigerians by the Country’s Constitution?” Rivers APC asked.

The party recalled the ordeal of Rivers State in the hands of CP Mbu before his redeployment to the FCT following the endless outcry of Rivers people. According to the party, “When we were shouting about the inimical acts of CP Mbu, nobody paid any attention to the nuisance this man had constituted himself but as soldiers of democracy that we are, we continued to endure him until God in his wisdom touched the hearts of our tormentors to further expose him to the entire world by posting him to Abuja after being rejected by various State Governments. To us in Rivers State APC, CP Mbu is a nuisance, anti-democrat, unprofessional and not expected to parade himself within a democratic set-up.

“CP Joseph Mbu, who had been lying low since he was posted out of Rivers State after holding the entire State to ransom based on his undemocratic acts and unprofessional policing, came back to life, once more exhibiting his hatred for normalcy and civilisation by ordering the stoppage of peaceful rallies in Abuja aimed at exposing the wicked acts and incompetence of officers of the Ministry of Education under the watch of Chief Nyesome Wike that have closed our Federal Colleges of Education and Federal Polytechnics for over nine months. Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, brought back life into CP Joseph Mbu when he ignorantly termed the #BringBackOurGirls campaigners APC members. On hearing that these campaigners may be APC members and feeling that he was still in Rivers State, Mbu made promptly and illegally announced the banning of the rallies.

“As much as we commend the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, for acting swiftly reversing the ill-advised ban, we wish to urge the Police Service Commission to consider the shame and embarrassment which this man has brought to the entire nation and to the Police in particular, and heed our wise counsel to either dismiss CP Mbu or repost him to Borno State to tackle the menace of Boko Haram since he hates to see peace in any environment where he operates.

Shocking fight between Oby Ezekwesili and Okupe

By Ehi Ekhator, Naija Center News.

The former Federal Minister of Solid Minerals, Federal Minister of Education, and presently a high profile member of the All Progressives Congress, Oby Ezekwesili must have taken the differences between her and some members of the Prsident Jonathan’s administration personal.

Doyin

A Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe  has had his share of the attack by being completely ignored while trying to say hello to her.

Dr. Okupe who took to his twitter page described the behaviour as unchristian-like.

He said ”This unnecessary hostility of oby is petty, childish and unbefiting of a Christian, certainly not a pastor’s, wife Oby ezekwesili is unfit 4 leadership

”Just met oby . went over to say hello. Shockingly she refused to say hello or shake me.! We may disagree but it ought not be personal.

Meanwhile Dr. Ezekwesili took to her twitter page criticising the decision reached by the Abuja Commissioner Police, Joseph Mbu over the banning of further protest relating to Chibok girls abduction.

She said ”The FG would do well to send its officials who wish to roll back our Democracy by infringing on Citizens Rights to my #Democracy101 Class.

”There is no BASIS for and no POWER of FCT Commissioner of Police to ban peaceful assembly of any group of persons in in the city. None @ ALL

”We of the AbujaFamily of #BringBackOurGirls have in the face of harassment by both the Nigerian Police &hired thugs maintained our CIVILITY”

oby ezekwesili

She advised the commissioner to arrest the thugs and their sponsors who attacked the protesters instead of banning a peaceful protest.

”What Commissioner Mbu should do is REPRIMAND their sponsored thugs who attacked us, WOMEN at our peaceful gathering. He can. He hired them.

”When their thugs attacked us while Mbu’s POLICEmen stood aloof, we refused to engage wt their gutter conduct. We figured this was their PLOT

”Predictably, Mbu has proven by his latest ill advised statement of repression of Citizens Rights that he and his bosses HIRED those THUGS.

”If Mbu’s daughter were one of 200 Daughters of Nigeria held captive by terrorists & We came out to STAND 4 their CAUSE, he would do this??

”Our AbujaFamily of #BringBackOurGirls diverse women, men and young people STANDING with our #ChibokGirls SHALL never abandon them. Never!

”No matter how DIRELY they want to take our FOCUS off our #ChibokGirls, We shall not permit them that LUXURY. All WE are SAYING………!!!”
