Maku calls for cancellation of Nasarawa election

The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance in Nasarawa State, Labaran Maku, has called for the cancellation of elections in the state.

Mr. Maku made the call on Sunday through Nghargbu K’tso, the media director of his campaign organisation.

Mr. K’tso, at a press conference in Lafia on Friday, alleged that there was massive rigging in the election, therefore, it should be cancelled.

He said the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies connived to rig the elections.

“Massive rigging through ballot box snatching, compromised INEC and Security Agencies, informed our call for cancellation of results in Lafia, Nasarawa, Doma, Karu and Toto,” Mr. K’tso said.

Mr. Maku came second in the election held Saturday, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, incumbent governor, Tanko Almakura, was declared winner.

He made the call on Friday in his home town, Wakama, Nasarawa, while addressing some of his supporters who paid him a visit.

The immediate past minister also urged Nigerians to vote popular candidates irrespective of their ethnic or religious affiliations.

“Nigerians must know that in this 21st century, elections must be based on issues and not on religious or ethnic affiliations,” he said.

Maku called on political leaders, especially those seeking election into public offices, not to be self-centered.

He said that in spite of his ordeal with the Peoples Democratic Party primary election in the state, he was still focused on his ambition to contest and win the governorship election in the state.

“I want to assure my supporters that no amount of conspiracy by a few people will stop me from contesting the 2015 general election,” he said.

He urged his supporters to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, describing him as the best president Nigeria had ever produced.
