The Peoples Democratic Party has said it had recovered from the unprecedented electoral defeat it suffered during the 2015 general elections.

The party said it had begun moves to recapture power from the All Progressives Congress in 2019.

The PDP said one of the moves, aiming at wining the elections in the future, was the election of the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Saturday said Mimiko, as a seasoned administrator and a highly organised person, was equipped for his new role as the chairman of the forum.

Metuh hailed the process that led to Mimiko’s emergence, saying the development reflects the unity and sense of purpose within its fold, especially at this rebuilding time.

He also commended the governors for their continued commitment towards the party “as it reengineers and repositions to regain power in 2019.”

Metuh added that the recent political events in the country had continued to vindicate the PDP as “the only true national platform committed to the national interest, where all citizens as equal partners are free to hold opinion and aspire to any position, no matter how high, without regard to creed, class or ethnic considerations and in which no individual or group of individuals can claim ownership or attempt to appropriate control.”

Stating that the PDP “has since overcome the setback of the last general elections,” the spokesperson for the opposition party said as a party founded on the principles of freedom, equality, justice and national unity, the PDP’s spirit “is still alive and stronger, now more than ever before, in the minds of most Nigerians and families in all the nooks and crannies of the country.”

He, therefore, charged its members in all the wards, local government and states of the federation to close ranks, double their efforts and continue to work with their leaders at all levels to ensure that the PDP comes out stronger to regain power at the center and in its traditional states come 2019.

PDP describes APC manifesto as "janjaweed Ideology"

By Ehi Ekhator

The all Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto have been faulted by the People Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as “janjaweed ideology”

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, he said that APC manifesto is a “roadmap to anarchy” which according to him, is a sign of anti-democratic coalitions.

Chief Metuh said that the APC manifesto revealed that the party is benefiting from the problem currently being faced by the northern part  of the country.

He said “It was a tacit acknowledgment that the APC may be benefiting from the mayhem and knows more than meets the eyes about the spate of terror attacks in the country.

“When last year in its first official outing, the leaders of the APC said terrorism in Nigeria would disappear within 100days of APC leadership, Nigerians did ask if they knew the characters in crime and their sponsors, APC gave silence as an answer while Nigerians kept wondering.

“Today, the party has released its manifesto with loud silence on the matter so that Nigerians would not raise further questions on the face behind the terrorism mask.”

The PDP accused APC of benefiting from the N84 billion award and another N5 billion that was paid to another member as party consultancy fee and therefore concluded that the party has no credible recipe to fight corruption more than the ruling party does at the moment.

He said “The PDP created anti corruption agencies- the ICPC, the EFCC and established the Freedom of Information Act to further give teeth to the war on graft.

“The PDP-led federal government has also shown no preferences in its battle on corruption as senior party leaders as well as relations have at one time or another been made to face the law on charges of corruption.

“The spirited defence for the suspended Central Bank Governor mounted by the APC was because the leaders of the party benefited immensely from the regime of sleaze that took place under Sanusi.

“A fraudulent N84 billion contract was awarded to a leader of the party while another N5billion was paid to another stalwart of the party as consultancy fee”, the party added.

The ruling party said nothing showcases the anti-democratic ambience of the APC than its inability to conduct a properly-constituted congresses and convention to elect its substantive officers almost a year after formation.

“The strange bed fellows have merged but the structures are refusing to integrate, hence, crisis and disagreements in its ranks.”

The PDP further described as tissue of lies, the claim by the APC that it was the first party to lunch a code of conduct. (0)
