NWC members will not resign, says PDP Acting Chairman

The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus has said that members of the National Working Committee (NWC) would not resign as being canvassed by some members of the Party.

Speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Secondus said there was no reason for any of the remaining NWC members to resign as their stay in office is tenured.

He also debunked insinuations that the former Chairman of the Party, Adamu Muazu was forced to resign from the position.

“You know that is not right, it is unconstitutional, because the chairman did that voluntarily, and the BoT Chairman also did that voluntarily. Some of the others have tenures, at the end of our tenure if we are re-elected, fine, if not that is the right thing to do.”

“There is no reason for us to resign because we have worked hard” he said.

On the coincidence of the resignation of both the national chairman and BoT Chairman, he said: “Sometimes it happens that way. Nobody forced them to go.”

Explaining the purpose of his visit to the Villa, he said: “I just came here to interact with our leader, Mr. President.”

Asked on what is now expected from the party, he said: “Sitting back to reorganize and then re-invent our party, and to assure our teeming supporters and members that the party is intact without any problem.”

It would be recalled that the PDP National Chairman, Adamu Muazu and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the party, Chief Tony Anenih had resigned yesterday.

Disregard rumour against Mu’azu, We"re already winning election - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says its campaigns are on course even as it reassures supporters that it is already winning the 2015 general elections following the soaring nationwide acceptability of President Goodluck Jonathan and its other candidates ahead of the polls.

The party, which thanked its members and supporters who showed concerns over rumours against its National Chairman, Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, however charged them to remain focused on the campaigns and not to be distracted, especially as such is not unusual in an election year.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Thursday said the party is very impressed with the quality of leadership President Jonathan is providing in the campaigns, which runs on his enviable performance and numerous verifiable achievements in all sectors of the economy.

“President Goodluck Jonathan has left no one in doubt that he is a national leader and one of the greatest bastions of Nigeria’s unity. He has remained committed to the stability and progress of our great country, a stance, which has continued to endear him to the electorates. Indeed, the PDP is very proud of him and his leadership”, the statement said

The PDP said the achievements of the Jonathan-led administration have touched various sectors of the economy, positively impacting on the lives of all cadres of Nigerians across the zones and amongst all tribes, irrespective of class, creed and gender, pointing out that this is one of the major factors that stabilized the polity in the face of daunting challenges.

The party therefore urged Nigerians to be unrelenting in their support for President Jonathan’s reelection bid so as to move the nation to the next level of development with the consolidation of the gains already achieved through the Transformation Agenda of the current administration.

“Our focus is on a new era of prosperity driven by the fruition of our people oriented policies and programmes, with a dynamic economy where market forces are combined with the forces of partnership, solidarity and cooperation for the benefit of all Nigerians”, the party said.

It therefore charged its members to close ranks and redouble their efforts to ensure the overall success of the campaigns especially seeing that Nigerians are solidly behind the party.

I’m Not A Pathological Liar -PDP Chairman

The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has said he is not a pathological liar.

It will be recalled that the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Ambassador Baba Ahmed, had referred to Mu’azu as a pathological liar.

Mu’azu also said he would not join issues with the state government and that he was more concerned with the development of the country and to win the fight against terror in Nigeria. He said because of this, he would not join issues with Ahmed.

Reacting to publications in some newspapers, (Naija Center News not inclusive) where he was described as a pathological liar by Ahmed, Mu’azu said what Nigerians needed now irrespective of party affiliation was to close rank so as to curtail the activities of the Boko Haram Sect.

Mu’azu said in a statement by his SA/ICT, Akin Oyegoke that “the attention of the office of the National Chairman of the PDP, Ahmadu Adamu Muazu, has been drawn to a press interview by the Secretary to the State Government of Borno State, Ambassador Baba Ahmed.

“In an interview in which Ambassador Baba Ahmed denied the letter of advice from the Federal Ministry of Education advising the Government of Borno State and other states in the region because of security situation not to conduct WAEC or NECO Examination outside of Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital is a clear acceptance of the lopsided approach by the Government in Borno State to fight insurgency in the area.

“The National Chairman of the PDP ordinarily will not like to join issues with any Nigerian especially not with Ambassador Baba Ahmed but as an elder statesman and a stakeholder in this administration, we wish to state again that for us to win the fight against terror in Nigeria, we must all close ranks irrespective of party affiliations and heed to all popular advice from any agency of government to curtail the activities of the Boko Haram Sect.

“We wish to state again that other states in the region which adhered to this advice from WAEC and the Federal Ministry of Education where able to conduct WAEC/NECO in their States capital peacefully.

“We owe our people the collective duty to protect and provide for them and we wish to once again advice the Government and stakeholders in Borno State and indeed all Nigerians to cooperate with government at all levels to stop this spate of violence.

“While we respect the office of the Secretary to the State Government and the person of Ambassador Baba Ahmed, a highly respectable Nigerian who has served the state and the country meritoriously, we wish again to advice Baba Ahmed to put his tenses together when addressing a public figure and the person and office of Ahmed Adamu Muazu, a former Governor of Bauchi State and, the Chairman of the largest Party in Black Africa.

“Adamu Muazu is definitely not a Pathological liar as referred to by Baba Ahmed, rather, he is a man highly revered by his people, a man of integrity, a refined politician and a gentleman.”

Mu’azu however called on the members of the Boko-Haram sect to embrace the amnesty extended to them by the federal government, drop their arms and join hands with all Nigerians and President Goodluck Jonathan, to continue to build the “Nigeria of our dream as there is no alternative to democracy.”(Punch)
