Political Killings: PDP Urges Police To Invite Rivers APC State Chairman For Explanations

The chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bro Felix Obuah says by the comments of Mr Davies Ikanya, the State chairman of the APC while addressing newsmen on its recent black Monday protest in Port Harcourt has admitted he knows the killers of some of the victims he claimed lost their lives during the 2015 general elections across the State.

According the Bro Obuah through a statement signed by Jerry Needam, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ikanya did not mince words when he admitted he knows the killers of one Christopher Adugbe, his two children and driver and therefore owes the police the responsibility of providing clues to those who committed this heinous act and should be invited and interrogated for details.

Describing Mr Ikanya’s sweeping allegations on the cause and identity of the killers of Mr Adugbe and family as one too many, the State PDP boss said Mr Ikanya should not continue to hide under the cover of the APC to malign and commit all manner of criminalities against the State and the citizens.

Noting that the killed politician, and APC convert as alleged by Mr Davies Ikanya was never an Andoni man as he, neither did the incident take place in Andoni, Mr Ikanya’s claim should therefore not be taken lightly or considered inconsequential and need further explanations to enable the police unravel this mystery for the benefit of all Rivers people, Bro Obuah stressed.

The State PDP chairman however wondered why the APC chairman should have such crucial clue to the abominable blood-letting that caused so much anguish to the Ogba people in particular and the State generally, yet he chose to go about the streets of Port Harcourt to celebrate when the logical thing to do would have been obliging the police the necessary assistance to arrest the culprits to serve as a deterrent to others.

He also challenged Mr Davies Ikanya to stop being cowardly and be man enough to State his facts rather than revel in casting aspersions on his superiors to please his paymasters.

“Mr Ikanya should also realize that great minds are preoccupied with serious issues for the progress of the society while idle minds keep even night vigils discussing great men. This is the bane of the APC in Rivers State, so the earlier he realizes this, the better for himself, his party and the generality of Rivers people”, Bro Obuah declared.

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party again absolves the State chairman of the Party, Bro Felix Obuah, the Governor of the State, Barr Nyesom Wike, other leaders and members of the party from any murder case or criminality in State.

APC Has ‘Master Key’ To Card Readers – PDP

•Accuses INEC of complicity

•Court okays Buhari for election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday called to question the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing it of working for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP specifically alleged that the INEC not only awarded the contract for the supply of Master Card Readers to an APC apologist, but also handed the master key to the cards to the man whom it identified as Sani Musa.

Femi Fani-Kayode

Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who disclosed these at a press conference in Abuja, accused INEC of putting in place in its preparation for the Presidential election programmes specifically meant to benefit the APC with a view to ensuring victory for the opposition party.

Fani-Kayode, however, expressed confidence that the PDP would win the elections irrespective of what happens, saying with confidence that Nigerians in their millions would vote for President Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking on the controversy surrounding the debate of whether voters should stay behind after voting to protect their votes or not, the PDP asked voters to stay back at the polling units and ensure that their votes are not rigged in favour of the opposition.

“We cannot sit by idly and remain silent when a desperate group of ruthless and greedy little men, in collusion with their friends in the APC, rob the Nigerian people of their historic opportunity to elect a President of their choice.

“This they intend to do this by sitting in a dark room somewhere and rigging the election in the most sophisticated manner even before it holds.

“We shall share this information in good faith and we shall then leave the matter for necessary action by the relevant security agencies and authorities,” he stated.

“Our concerns stem from the fact that the moving spirit and a major shareholder and board member of the company that supplied the Card Reader system and machines to INEC is not only a friend of but also an ardent and keen supporter of General Mohammadu Buhari and the APC.

“That man’s name is Sani Musa and he is indeed the main force behind the company. The company’s name is Act Technologies Ltd. and the Chairman of the company is one Engineer SK Danladi.

“How and why INEC would give the contract to supply the Card Readers to a fanatical APC supporter and to a man whose other company was officially blacklisted by INEC a couple of years ago for sharp practices, needs to be explained,” he stated.

He said Sani Musa has expressed his undying support for the APC and General Buhari and his hatred and virulent opposition to the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan openly and publicly on his Facebook wall.

“Some of his comments on Facebook read as follows: ‘I stand with him (Buhari) for whatever reason” and “Imagine the kind of people given spaces in our nation’s news tabloids. Hoodlums are having field day in Nigeria since the inception of GEJ’s administration. Mad men, hooligans and vultures have taken over decency of the society. May Allah save us from the torments of this (sic) rascals and expose their intentions on our nation state be it the Boko Haram, killer militants or by extension those in authority with wicked intentions – Amen.’”

He also alleged that certain aspect of and electronic components within the Card Reader system which would be used in Saturday’s election had not only been compromised but that the encryption codes and so-called ‘’master key’’ may have been made available to the opposition or their friends and agents.

“This will enable them to access the system, fabricate and generate fake votes and manipulate the voting patterns to their advantage. This constitutes a very serious breach of security and it is a criminal offence,” he stated.

“If the conspiracy is not exposed, if the Nigerian people do not rise up and demand answers, if the plan is not intercepted and aborted, if the Chairman of INEC does not answer the relevant questions and take the necessary steps and if the relevant individuals, including Sani Musa and his collaborators and co-conspirators in INEC and the opposition, are not called to order, arrested, interrogated and prosecuted, their plan may well succeed,” he further said.

Raising further allegations, Fani-Kayode said specifically that “The Master Encryption/Decryption Key that can “unlock” and simulate the PVC data processed by the Smart Card Reader had been compromised.

“There is only one copy of the Master Key in Nigeria and it is in the possession of an individual who is a known APC sympathiser/supporter (and also the contractor responsible for the production of PVCs and manufacture of Smart Card Readers for INEC who was already blacklisted by INEC following his inability to deliver ballot papers during the 2011 elections).

“The Master Key should rightly be in the possession of INEC, as the neutral umpire, under the most stringent access control protocol imaginable and not freely in the possession of a partisan actor,” he stated.

Proffering solutions to the identified problem, the PDP said “INEC should be officially requested to immediately produce the Master Encryption/Decryption Key (before it has the opportunity to cover up this monumental act of negligence).

“Failure to carry out Independent Security Audit of its IT Infrastructure: Contrary to what the average political commentator thinks, the critical IT infrastructure for the use of the Smart Card Readers by INEC is not necessarily the actual device itself, but the back-end IT infrastructure comprising INEC servers, database, network, personnel and processes.

“Given the critical nature and purpose of this infrastructure, the standard global best practice is for the organisation to enlist the services of an independent third-party IT Security Audit firm to carry out a comprehensive (and indeed, periodic) Security Audit of its entire end-to-end IT infrastructure and prepare a Security Audit Report which forms the ONLY basis upon which INEC can certify its proposed technology as secure and safe from vulnerabilities that can be exploited by rouge persons/systems.

“There are various internationally-acceptable information security standard certifications that a reliable back-end IT infrastructure like INEC’s should pass in order to command public confidence, such as ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 27018, etc.

“The lack of such security-related certifications simply means that INEC cannot confidently assert that its systems have not been “hacked”, compromised or otherwise illegally accessed by unauthorised persons.

“INEC should be officially requested to immediately produce a copy of any Security Audit Report independently authored by a reputable and certified third party (before it has the opportunity to cover up this monumental act of negligence).

“If INEC fails to produce a satisfactory Security Audit Report, then it should be compelled to conduct a fresh Security Audit of its entire IT infrastructure which can even be extended to its production/manufacturing facilities in China (indeed the only other copy of the Master Encryption/Decryption Key is in the possession of the Chinese Manufacturers) – this process of auditing cannot possibly be completed before the general elections,” he stated.

“Compromised back-end Personnel: Contrary to standard industry practice, INEC opted for the engagement of relatively inexperienced, “suitcase” IT Consulting Companies for the development of its back-end collation and transmission systems and other core server and database applications, using predominantly open source software characterised by publicly-available source code – another major security vulnerability. While significant budgets were made available for this purpose, INEC’s choice of “greenhorn” consultants was due to the ridiculously low contract sums paid for these consultancy contracts.

“The unfortunate consequence of this indiscretion, however, is that the personnel associated with these firms are poorly motivated, ill-equipped, poorly supervised and easily compromised,” he stated.

Despite the identified challenges, Fani-Kayode expressed confidence that President Jonathan would win the elections.

“The PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation and our candidate President Goodluck Jonathan are not in the least bit worried about what the outcome of Saturday’s election will be.

“We believe that we have the backing and full support of the Nigerian people and we believe that we shall not only win but that we shall win convincingly,” he stated.

In another development, General Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, secured a temporary relief to participate in Saturday’s Presidential poll as a Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned till April 22 and 23 further hearing in the suit seeking to disqualify him.

The adjournment has finally laid to rest the speculation that the court would be used to stop Buhari from taking part in the Four different plaintiffs had approached the court seeking to disqualify Buhari from participating in the presidential polls over alleged certificate forgery and perjury.

The court presided over by Justice Adeniyi Ademola at the resumed hearing on Wednesday refused the joinder application brought by one pro-democracy activist, Ebunoluwa Adegoruwa, and another lawyer, Chukwuma Ochu, seeking to be joined in the matter.

Ruling on their application, the court held that none of the parties seeking to be joined had shown enough interest that could warrant their being joined as parties in the suit.

The court described them as meddlesome interlopers and busy bodies.

It was on that note that court refused their application.

The court later adjourned till April 22 and 23 for hearing of the matter against Buhari.

It would be recalled that one Chika Okafor had dragged Buhari to court seeking to disqualify him from participating in the March 28 presidential election over alleged certificate forgery and perjury.

While the case was pending, the APC applied to be joined and was consequently joined as a co-defendant.

Buhari through his counsel, Wole Olanipekun, had also challenged the mode of service of court papers on him and also the order to abridge time.

APC through its counsel, Lateef Fagbemi, also filed a preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.

The court had earlier fixed Tuesday for the ruling on the abridgment of time and mode of service of the process on Buhari.

But at the resumed hearing, Ebunoluwa Adegoruwa had brought an application for joinder.

He premised his application on the grounds that he was a pro-democracy activist and wants to ensure that all the candidates were granted equal right.

Tele Ikuru, Amaechi’s deputy shuns Rivers exco meeting

The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Mr. Tele Ikuru, was conspicuously absent at Wednesday’s State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Ikuru’s absence may not be unconnected with his defection from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, who confirmed the deputy governor’s absence at the executive council meeting, disclosed that Ikuru had yet to submit his formal resignation letter from APC to the council.

Semenitari explained that Ikuru, who is the Vice Chairman of the State Executive Council, maintained that the deputy governor’s defection to the PDP would not affect electoral fortunes of the APC in the state.

“Today, we held our weekly State Executive Council meeting. The only person that is absent at the meeting was the Vice Chairman of the council and Deputy Governor of the state, His Excellency, Engr. Tele Ikuru.

“The meeting was chaired by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We want to notify the media that as of today, no formal resignation letter of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, has reached the Chairman of Exco.

“Chairman of exco briefed exco members that he had read in the media of reports of the defection of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor. Exco also received information from members of Exco from Andoni, His Excellency, the Deputy Governor’s local government area, that indeed he (deputy governor) has been received by the Peoples Democratic Party.

“Therefore, that means that he has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. His Excellency, the Governor, has told Exco that this does not in any way affect the position of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor as the Deputy Governor of the state,” she said.

Semenitari pledged the loyalty of 31 members of the State Executive Council, including the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. George Feyii, advisers and commissioners to the State Governor and Chairman of the council, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and the APC.

Explaining that Ikuru’s defection to the PDP would not affect his position as the deputy governor of the state, the commissioner stressed that none of the governor’s aides had left the APC for any other party and had no intention to abandon the party.

“Exco resolved that members of the Exco will remain committed to His Excellency, the Governor, and the good people of Rivers State. All members of Exco who belong to the All Progressives Congress remain members of the All Progressives Congress.

“None of us has resigned his position with the APC and none of us intends to resign our position with the APC,” the commissioner assured.

APC planning military intervention, Fani-Kayode alleges

The Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, raised a fresh alarm on Monday that the opposition All Progressives Congress was planning to mobilise Nigerians to demand a military intervention if President Goodluck Jonathan wins the forthcoming presidential election.

Fani-Kayode

Fani-Kayode

Fani-Kayode, who addressed journalists in Abuja, said details of the alleged plot were contained in a nine-minute video produced by the APC, which he said contained ridiculous allegations against Jonathan and members of his cabinet.

He also said the video exposed the opposition party’s plot to mobilise Nigerians against Jonathan’s government by pushing for a military intervention to terminate the current administration.

He said, “They went as far as to suggest that when the presidential election is fought and won and President Goodluck Jonathan emerges as the winner, that the people should call for a full scale military intervention rather than allowing Jonathan to come back.

“They also specifically asked for the targeting and assassination of key members of this administration and a number of its supporters in the event of a Jonathan victory in the coming elections.

“We say in clear terms that the video in question and the intentions of those behind it is reprehensible, irresponsible and it is unacceptable.

“We wish to take this opportunity to let the APC know that under no circumstances will we allow them to rob us of our legitimate mandate, which, hopefully, will be legitimately and freely given to the President by the Nigerian people on March 28.

“We will not also tolerate any act of violence or any attempt to assassinate anybody by their agents in the event of us winning and neither will the people of this country ever allow another military intervention.”

Fani-Kayode explained that the latest video, which he said was produced by a group called “APC New Video”, had been procured and secretly viewed by the intelligence unit of his directorate.

The opposition, he said, had listed a number of issues and allegations, including the fact that many Nigerians were using private jets as indicative of the corrupt nature of the Jonathan administration.

He said that the APC also alleged that in the last four years, the government had spent N48bn on the Presidential Air Fleet, which, according to Fani-Kayode, is a lie.

The APC group, he added, raised issues about the kidnapping of the Chibok girls in the alleged video, insinuating that the government had a hand in the kidnapping of the girls.

He said the video captured issues about the comments of Steven Davis, the Australian negotiator who alleged that a “friend’’ of the President, Ali Modu Sheriff, was sponsoring Boko Haram.

He said, “They made all kinds of allegations, including the alleged relationship between the President of Chad, the President of Nigeria and Ali Modu Sheriff. Needless to say these allegations are baseless and they are simply unbelievable.

“Again, a lot of foreign footage is contained in the video, which suggests that there is an international dimension to the production.

“This confirms our fears and belief that the APC is being sponsored primarily by money from foreign countries and by agents of foreign governments that are hostile to the interest of our beloved nation, Nigeria.”

The APC has however dismissed the allegations by Fani-Kayode.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said, “Don’t you think that the desperation of the PDP and President Jonathan knows no bounds.

“They have invested billions of naira in smear campaigns, lies, propaganda, character assassination, bribery in the name of political campaigns and all they have reaped is opprobrium and total rejection by the Nigerian people.

“They continue to throw mud with the hope that something sticks. Incidentally only yesterday an online polls conducted by Premium times gave “General Buhari 89 per cent against Jonathan’s 10 percent. The credible polls both domestic and international have given the race to General Buhari the allegations against APC are baseless.”
